I borrowed this from the "Casablanca" boards. You basically delete a post and say why it was deleted.

Examples: [This post was deleted because …that was so long ago that I don’t remember.]

[This post was deleted because it got tired of waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting . . . in Casablanca.]

Remember to read all the other posts before contributing yours, so as not to duplicate too much.

Okay, I’ll start the Airplane! version:

…when spoof films were actually funny. Now, all we got is Epic, Date and Disaster Movie. God, what has the world come to?

Obviously Striker was "coming in too hot," and was also, "too low." What could he have done diffrenty?

I first saw "Airplane!" when I was a kid, and as much as I enjoyed it, I wonder how much more I would have gotten out of it if I’d been older. For one thing, I think a large part of the humor came from seeing actors who were well-known for their serious roles (Peter Graves, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, etc.) doing such outlandish bits. Even Leslie Nielsen was, at that time, a serious dramatic actor. But I was too young to know who these people were, so it didn’t mean as much to me that they were acting so unlike their established screen personas.

At one point, Leslie Nielson is asked what was happening in regards to the sick passengers and crew. He replies, "I’m not sure. Haven’t seen anything like this since the Anita Bryant concert." Was this in regards to the controversy Anita Bryant stirred up in the late 70s?

Whenever someone says "I can’t tell", I always have to counter with "You can tell me. I’m a doctor." I’m not sure if most people get it, but I’m hopelessly compelled to do it anyway.

This movie doesn’t even try to be funny. 7.8?? Come on… I mean, even movies like Black Knight (Martin Lawrence) are better than this.

Hold my breath as I wish for death… Oh please God, wake me.

I’m not talking about those movie series movies i mean the one that has the kinda humor in airplane. Like it spoofs alot of movies but it does it the way airplane would i guess is what i’m saying. Like one movie that was simillar to airplane was Backfire which was a movie i’ve never heard of. Can anyone name some?

I cannot remember how many times I have seen Airplane! Somewhere between 50-100 times easy. I just watched it again earlier this week in honor of the passing of Peter Graves (Capt. Oveur). I still laugh just as hard now as I did when I first saw this film 20 some years ago. Hard to believe this film is 30 years old this year. Just the cast they got for this. Leslie Nielson, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves as well as Robert Hayes and Julie Hagerty and the cameo parts like Barbara Billingsley’s part. They couldn’t have put a better cast for a comedy together. Airplane! is definitely in my top 10 comedies of all time. Top 5 easy.

    What’s up with this?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airplane!#Sequels

"Since 2004, there have been extensive talks between the surviving members of Airplane and Airplane II and Paramount studio executives regarding a third part to the Airplane series. A treatment leaked in November 2009 suggested that the film would take place on Sept. 11, 2001, and would deal with an aging Ted Striker facing off against terrorists involved in the Sept. 11 Attacks. The plot structure would be somewhat similar to the first two, "happy ending and all.""

That sounds awesome. I hope it gets made. Is there a petition I could sign? Does anybody have the treatment?

The sequence where the two lovers part when he is boarding the plane the girl is running after him running into things. The whole scene is played out as if they were boarding a train even the "conductor" looking at his pocketwatch cements this. What I want to know is this scene a lampoon of an age old hollywood romance film? If so then the title of the film.

Pedophile joke be funny in a movie! I wonder if that ‘Do you like Gladiator movies?’ line would work today, or if it would be to unsettling given the current hysteria over prosecuting pedophiles?

Anyone who likes "Airplane" has to see "Zero Hour!" (1957) "Airplane" was based on "Zero Hour! and uses the same plot, character names and many of the exact same lines. ("Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.")

    It’s hilarious.

Is this movie available on Blu Ray? If not, does anyone know when it will be? This is one of the best comedies of all time, and after hearing of the passing of Peter Graves I got online with the intention of buying the movie on Blu Ray… but I can’t find it.

I absolutely love this movie and would love to see it on blu ray and loaded with special featurettes

I dunno, i mean, a little background, i’m 23, australian, so maybe it’s an american thing, and i’m much more preferenced towards australian or british comedy style (monty python, that sort of thing), but this just really came across as lame. It was like a long, long collection of roughly related unfunny cringe worty sketches. I actually pittied leslie neilson for being in this movie, normally i’m a fan of his.

Did anyone have any favourite bits they thought were funny? I’d rewatch bits to give it another go, but i dunno, i didn’t laugh out loud once.

How did she not become a major star after this movie? She did go onto star in the tv version of Private Benjamin, but she pretty much disappeared from Hollywood after that. Amazingly, according to IMDB, Airplane was her only movie credit.

She is so cute, warm, and friendly in this movie. And from everything I can gather, she really sang the River of Jordan song in that scene. And it rocked!

Thanks, Lorna, for being such a great part of a classic movie.
