I love Bridget, her quirky family and her trio of friends, but I can’t work out what the appeal is for both Cleaver and Darcy. Cleaver is a sleaze without any charm (and I find Hugh Grant tedious and always-the-same in everything he does) and Darcy bores me rigid (and I can’t see why Colin Firth is idolised, I try really hard to, I think it’s because his character is so uptight and snobbish, that I struggle to lose that impression and therefore find him unattractive) – even though my brains says "it’s acting!"

I don’t know….maybe, BJ3 will find Bridget on to fresh boyfriends and new scenarios….here’s hoping that Cleaver won’t return. His story is finished.

i’m sick of seeing the british being stereotyped in american productions, or more specifically in this case..americans trying to pass themselves as one of us in films like this one (could say its an american production because the production companies are american). americans know absolutely nothing when it comes to british life. i have seen it time and time again, they pretty much stereotype us as a bunch of posh speaking londoners or something. its so annoying and i’m sick of them speaking for us in this regard, its almost insulting. why is it that in american productions, when its something to do with the UK – or ‘england’ as the idiots keep referring to it as – i always see someone talking posh, drinking tea, living near the tower of london or big ben (or walking by there), etc? maybe if i did a british production and i had to do an american portrayal, maybe i might have someone wear cowboy hats and boots, saying ‘howdy’ to everyone and always having a gun by my side..americans wouldn’t like that would they.

when i think of british, productions that picture more realistic portrayals would include those like..eastenders, coronation st, and maybe emmerdale. not just in terms of behaviour, also seeing the accents, settings, environment, etc..storylines maybe, maybe not. but they’re far better and believeable than american portrayals of us. but nooo, the yanks probably have not heard of these shows, nor probably accept say the yorkshire/northern accent as ‘british’, it has to be posh and productions always occur in the central london area near some famous landmark to give their ignorant selves the most obvious clue where they are. i’m so sick of it that i decided to stop watching american drivel portraying us because they don’t know the first thing about us. why don’t you come here, live here for a few years, see some real british tv, have a real taste of the life and culture here, then maybe you’ll have a clue. just because you’re political allies with us doesn’t mean you know us – you don’t know sh*t.

i don’t speak posh, i don’t drink tea, i’m not from london, and you don’t speak for me. so *beep* off.

i pass on the question to fellow people in the UK (not just ‘england’) – do you find the british portrayal in american productions tiresome and annoying, stereotyping you as something you are clearly not?

Who rules? I think Hugh Grant is cuter, Colin is more charismatic. Who would I like to date? It’s a toss up…

In the movie didn’t she say her weight was 136 pounds?

    136 pounds = overweight?!

How tall is Briget supposed to be?

Renee Z the actress is 5’4 – a person at 5’4 and weighing 136 pounds is at a healthy/normal/ideal weight according to the Body Mass Index (http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/).

I was a little sad seeing Bridget be so upset at being 136 pounds because I’m exactly 136 pounds and my BMI is 22.6 (I’m 5’5). A healthy/normal/ideal BMI is between 18.5 – 24.9.

    Your thoughts…

the ‘connections’ link says that some part of the movie is connected to Legally Blond and I definitely remember while watching Bridget Jones thinking that whatever was going on reminded me of Legally Blond. for the life of me I can’t remember what it was now that I’ve finished the Bridget Jones. anyone know what I’m refering to?

Despite that her character is supposed to be overweight I find her to be very hot in this, I actually prefer how she looks here than how she usually looks in her real life.

well my favourite scene is the fight scene, especially when Tom goes into the restaurant and shouts ‘It’s a real fight!’ and when Daniel and Mark crash through the glass.

My favourite line is near the end when Bridget’s mum says about Mark ‘He’s still (taps nose) divorced’ and Bridget goes ‘He’s also still (taps nose) derranged!’

There are lots more as well. What are yours?

Why all the hate toward America on here? I’ve been reading through a few threads and I just couldn’t help but notice that there is a lot of negativity about the U.S.A. I’m from America (I know that a few of you will probably think, "It figures…"), and even though I know we can be closed-minded, I find all the judgmental attitudes to be closed-minded as well. We’re not as bull-headed and ignorant about the world as some of you may believe. So, please, don’t generalize like that. It’s offensive to those of us who are intelligent (there’s actually a surprising amount of Americans who are educated…believe it or not).

Other than that, I love this movie. I don’t feel comfortable posting a topic on these boards without saying something about the film. Colin Firth is my hero.

I never thought I’d see such a funny depiction of the interaction between married couples of single people. It’s a bit exaggerated, but it’s not far from the truth. Married people sometimes think they’re so much wiser, think they’re so much better than the rest o us.

The only other movie scene that I’d say is just as good, was in this brief exchange in the 1994 thriller "Speed" where one of the endangered bus passengers says, "Man, I gotta wife!" and some other guy responds "Oh, so because you have a wife and I don’t, that makes me expendable?"

Married people can be so pompous.

I loved the realism in this film, the way she sits with a bottle of wine and stuffs her face to make herself feel better. When I’m down I do the same..But when talk to my friends about her doing this in the movie they always say how sad she is, and how they never drink alone. I don’t think its sad and fair enough I wouldn’t go bragging about it, but haven’t you ever just felt like curling up with a bottle of wine and having a good cry?

Am I the only one who didn’t think she was fat?! I actually thought she was more of an average weight and that today is portrayed as fat in the media. She’s not skinny however, but thats what makes her all the more likeable because people just feel bad about themselves if they watch skinny girls all the time. I really think it’s just Renee’s rounder face and not her actual body. Anyone agree?

I had the misfortune of stomaching this movie today, but thankfully not all of it. I was pretty bored throughout most of it…I was at a friend’s house and it was on in the background, so I couldn’t say "turn it off." Then this (typical) "fight" scene happens and finally the owner of the house said "garbage!" out loud and changed the channel. I guess when producers/directors need something to spice up the movie they throw in a fight with a bunch of disgusting losers in the background cheering it on. Folks…these guys get paid a LOT for this trash!

Towards the end of the movie she is looking sadly out of her window eating something out of a jar with a spoon. Can anyone tell me what this is? I’m not from England, so I was thinking it might be something widely known there.
