OK, this has to be the absolute worst John Wayne movie I have ever seen!

    It is so cheeseball! …

The acting is horrible, the story is worse, and it is just so cheesy.

If I ever watch it again, it will be for some much needed laughs.

    What was John Wayne thinking?

This is a very good, although predictable, John Wayne movie. Encore Westerns has been running a "100 Years/100 Hours" in honor of his 100th birthday. There has never been an actor with more screen "presence" in the history of film.

This film was good for me, because it showed a softer side of him toward his sons and he recognized his lacking as a father. However, no matter what, he was more concerned with justice being done than even the lives of his boys. The men that he was trying to keep from being hanged were definitely bad guys, but they were innocent of the charge and, due to his boys being partly responsible for the injustice, Cahill had to make sure it was right and even though it was dangerous for his boys. It all comes out right in the end.

It is not one of John Wayne’s best ones and the script writers made some great actors look silly such as George Kennedy at the rain scene when he leaves the sick boy alone to get well. But it still is a good movie in spite of it’s faults. Neville Brand gives a great performance as Lightfoot. He should have been given serious oscar consideration for best supporting actor.
