For anyone who agrees with me, please go to the submit updates button at the bottom of the Cloverfield IMDB page and add sci-fi and horror as genres. Thanks!

I always hear differing opinions on who survived. Obviously Marlena and Hud definitely died, but besides that it seems up for debate with the consensus that Lily probably survived and Rob and Beth probably died. I’ve even heard some people make the argument that Jason could’ve lived… he’d have just fallen in the water and it was early enough in the night that he could’ve been picked up.

So what do you all think? Who lived, who died?

If this was ever going to happen, I would be like everyone for themselves becuase they were just fiends and some of them were in a relationship but not all of them. its not like they were family or married. you can also find new friends, and new partners.

I bet anyone with that throught process would survive and the people who go back for other people would die striaght away and they deserve to die, for trying to be a hero when their not.

This might be harsh but what ever gets you through the day, I would do.

Am I the only one sick to death of films where every main character just happens to be remarkably good-looking, slim and young?

According to Hollywood interesting things only happen to people who fit that description. Little nancy boy-men with moisturised faces and carefully styled hair.

Where were the old-people, the ugly gits, the lard-asses???

If this film had been made in the good old days the hero would been some grizzled, wrinkly fvcker like Charlton Heston with imperfect, smoke-stained teeth and blemished skin, and he certainly wouldn’t have felt the need to cry or hug other men every 5 minutes!!!

At least there’s comfort to be taken from the fact that most of those smug, attractive prats from the party at the start of this probably died in unpleasant ways :)

    This happened 2007.

The US government has tried to hide it.

Its funny to see that people thinks that this is fake.

The footage is actually real and it was leaked out by a political man, whom name I don’t wanna mention.

My cousin works at a movie cinema and says that in about 3-4 weeks they are putting up a Cloverfield 2 poster with no warning. There has been nothing on the Internet but the film (he says) will be out in 4-7 months time. I really hope it’s true! He says he’s gonna give me the poster when they are done with it :-D

Watching the film again, I started thinking of the body-count:

Jason: Killed by Clover at the bridge.

Marlena: Exploded from chemical in parasite-bite.

    Hud: Eaten partially by Clover.

And of course at the end, the couple is reunited, who cry over the fact that their friends are dead. But in a way…aren’t they responsible for the deaths of their friends and relatives?

That then got me thinking: was it Rob’s fault, or Beth’s? It seems they made some stupid decisions, and that in the end resulted in the deaths of the people they knew.

I’d be interested to see what answers people come up with.

Despite this film being around 1 hour and 15 minutes, it’s still FAR TOO LONG. My friend who likes ‘big’ films made me go and see it. Apparently the story is about some giant alien thing being terribly frightening and even harmful, sometimes fatally so, to many, many people in New York. No explanation for this creature’s unfortunate rampage is given, so apparently the idiot director didn’t realize that that’s what everybody was coming for (along with your typical side-stories). The film is filmed on hand-held camera in order to capture the ‘gritty realism’ of said creature’s destructive rampage. Why? Don’t know, don’t care.

And I just feel like sharing with the already-realizing world that this is a simply awful – terribly awful – film.

Excluding MAYBE the actresses for ‘Beth’ and ‘Marlena’, all the actors had no allure whatsoever (in fact, contrary to what I suspect I was meant to feel that I wanted them all to die within 10 minutes of the start of the "second third" because they were so annoying in the first third). The actor who plays ‘Rob’ showed little – if not any at all – sign of realism from his expression whenever we saw his face, including possibly that last shot of him when he’s talking to the camera and saying his "last prayers". This is basically a teen flick, monster movie, stealing ideas from reality and fantasy and mixing them together – 9/11 vs Godzilla meets College Frat Party vs Alien.

I may have changed my mind had the majority of the acting been better, but by God it was pathetic.

Firstly, the point of this film. Why? Why do Americans feel the need for this kind of movie, a film where they are destroyed by a superior external force? Because it’s entertaining? Sometimes. Anything else? Simple, because it’s reverse psychology because America has become so powerful it has no fear of anything real, which is why fear manifests itself internally in the psyche, and it’s so bloody common and re-occurring, this theme, I suspect it’s become pretty close to a whole new cultural archetype for the 21st century. Why, after all, for a country that’s got everything, do so many people feel the ‘need’ for shrinks? Rhetorical question obviously.

So, here we are. Another disaster movie from, guess which country? Yes, America. You’re correct sir.

I was going to start this sentence saying, it’s funny how this is the same country which had 9/11 and still they do this. But it’s actually sad. A country so far removed from reality that it makes films inspired by real experiences to try and make them actual again so they can try and try and really try and re-live them in fantasy, ‘World Trade Center’ for example. Then they release this saying it’s a reference to 9/11. Pull the other one. They want danger, they want death. Anything to pluck at what’s left of a heart and make them feel alive. A strange sort of death wish.

Yet, in the face of the utter disaster happening on-screen, friends dying and so on, the main kid in this piece of celluloid garbage known as ‘Rob’ – after he and his dwindling group have gone dozens of miles trying to cross bridges and travel through tunnels underground, and the group eventually collapses with exhaustion, this boy suddenly heroically states: "you don’t need to come, I’ll go on alone" (boo hoo). Come on you idiot, you’ve lost friends, the ones still alive aren’t doing too good either and, for goodness sake, they aren’t exactly going to turn back now are they? And besides, they’ll probably wonder, after all you’ve been through, why suddenly you’ve reverted to being your usual insecure self ("what? Really? You want to come WITH me?") mixed with some new-found, Sir Galahad style bravado…..Anyhow, the surviving kids say "No (pant, pant, puff, puff)..we..we….we’re comin’ with ya". And get this, idiot cameraboy says "ARE YA SURE?". Oh for crying out loud. Does he really need to repeat it? Of COURSE he’s bloody sure. NOW is not the time for this sort of nonsense. I despair. I mean, if there’s a time not to be paranoid, insecure, or selfishly acting the noble martyr it’s now. DEAL with it. Idiot.

Oh and it’s all been supposedly shot on hand-held camera. This starts of fairly plausible when being used at a party at the beginning (and for a few more minutes thereafter). But when they get lost in the dark and a fairly powerful torch type light comes on and beams ahead so they can see where they’re going I realise this is an expensive piece of equipment these kids have got (lame). And when the infra red, night vision lens came on that really blew me away and told me what we were dealing with here. It starts with B, it ends in T and it has the letters ULLSHI in the middle of it. Did I forget the the T at the end? Oh, there it is.

And another thing, when your best pal gets his leg injured off and you’ve all just crash landed in a helicopter and survived, since when do you hobble off and then suddenly realise you better turn back to pick up your camera and keep filming? Ah yes, I know, it’s when you’re completely detached from reality, that’s when. When you can’t tell the difference between a film and reality anymore.

But OK, aside from all that, I think I need to go back into the tiny little basis of the film again. I think I can do that with just one sentence.

Yup, it’s the good ol’ American Death Wish.

who really disliked this movie? I know a lot of people are going to flame me for saying this but I personally found it boring and uncreative with a really weak plot. Maybe I’m just not used to these type of video-cam style movies (which made me a bit nauseous but again that’s probably just me…) although I have seen Blair Witch and I found it much more enjoyable…

Anyway: I don’t know if I missed some kind of hidden meaning in this movie or I didn’t understand it or something but I thought it was terrible and want to know if anyone else agrees or if I’m just being…’ignorant’
