Big baddie has pics of himself with Bush and Cheney…

Lesser baddie is a Republican Senator from MA. (Which, prior to Scott Brown was almost inconcievable)

The reporters that bug Mel late at night are from the Boston FOX News affiliate.

AND we have evil Americans making weapons and disguising them so when they’re used, poor middle eastern countries will be blamed…

This movie deserved a 8 or 9. Everything from the plot to Mel Gibson’s performance was superb. I had to keep rewinding scenes just out of excitement. So far the best movie of the year. I rank this highly with the departed and taken. Deserves a nomination nod for the screenplay, mel gibson’s and ray winstone performance even though ray got little screen play. And to the haters..what can i say..???

In the scene where Jedburgh (Ray Winstone), kills the Senator and the other guys, spares the guards life, and after putting his handgun down, gets immediately shot by that same guard…

In this scene, didn’t anyone else think of the "The Departed" scene where Leo DiCaprio is leaving the elevator with Matt Damon and gets shot out of nowhere?

It’s not like the scenes have anything to do with each other, except for both characters being shot completely out of the blue (the scene with the girl being runned over was also on the same basis). Maybe I found this similarities because both films were written by William Monahan and starred Ray Winstone. Don’t know.

Anyway, did anyone else found the similarity with The Departed? Or other film for that matter.

Funny how I go on this board and there are plenty of people comparing the two already, even funnier that it came out a year later.

What a disappointment. As someone who knows a thing or two about process of movie making, I was really surprised from the amateurish level of the production and directing in this one. Like some first year film student was responsible to work with actors, and another one was sitting in the editing room, inserting everything that is awkward in it. The angle they approached, otherwise decent, script was really shameful, like no one really cared about making this right. After high level of professionalism Campbell displayed in his Bond film, I am sorry to say – he did this one just for the money, without putting any effort or passion into the movie.

The only other theory I have, is that he meant to shame Mel Gibson and did it to him intentionally. Because Gibson is truly pathetic here.

Why did Jedburg kill the three men (including the senator) at the end? I thought he was on their side. But I’ll be honest, I’m glad he did, they deserved it. And how did that trooper suddenly appear? It was not even a minute after Jedburg executed the senator (and the 2 others). And why did he allow himself to be shot by the trooper? He should’ve told the man to lower his gun, and step away, and then Jedburg gets away…I guess William Monahan likes to kill off everyone in his screenplays.

So Northmoor was manufacturing nuclear weapons, intended to be traced to foreign nations if they are used as dirty bombs. I can’t comprehend which government were going to use these bombs? US or foreign? If US then wouldn’t the army and government come to know about this? If foreign then how the hell were they going to be transferred to foreign soil?

Please someone explain this to me, I might be completely off here, thanks in advance!

Saw this 2day. Thought it was a good starring comeback for Mel but he should have chosen a more visceral story. The BBC original was better than this in my opinion. In this one, they took out all sci-fi references which the title refers too. Ray Winstone’s character isn’t fully actualized and the final scene is just too anti-climactic. This was just depressing to watch, even after two viewings. Anyways, welcome back, Mel.

The way the movie is edited is bothersome, and it feels disjointed. There isn’t a good flow to a lot of the scenes, I think the transition between the scenes are too abrupt.

At one point, Mel is in a shack, then next he is in a courtroom, then later he is in the highway speaking to the activist lady. There are too many scenes that are jumping around without a connection.

Also a lot of the characters are underdeveloped.

For anyone not wearing their underwear tight around their head or an absolute idiot, I think you would agree that this movies plot was stupid!

A US COMPANY building NUCLEAR WEAPONS for TERRORISTS??? How stupid can you get???

Now I can say that I have heard it all!

And what makes the writers of this stupid movie not even THINK that if you gave terrorists a nuclear bomb that was untraceable back TO the USA , the first place they would use it on would be the USA??

This plot is so stupid it is nowhere near reality!

This guy in front of me whispered to his girlfriend "I thought that girl was dead" This was at the end when Kramer’s daughter shows up at the hospital right before he dies and walks out hand in hand with her out of the hospital. I wanted to beat the *beep* out of the guy. I hate morons like that who only watch movies say every 6 months and spend more time screwing their girlfriend, hanging out at clunbs and playing sports. My friend who was with me at the time were bagging him on the way home.

What blows me away is that for years people have been pounding Mel Gibson accusing him of being anti gay, anti semitic, ect.., going on and on about how he is intolerant and hateful. The truth is, what he has done is pales in comparison to the behavior of his attackers. I have heard some of the most terrible things said about him… all you people spew hatred at him over and over long after the fact and you say that he is the evil one? He is intolerant? He is hateful? F’ing grow up people and stop your whining. We all say stupid things from time to time. What if something you said when you were drunk was publicized to the world and millions of people crucified you day after day, year after year for it on TV, the internet … anywhere they could. How would you feel? Get over it.

At first I was pi$$ed off when I saw that the film made the nefarious Senator a Republican, thinking: "oh great, another liberal propoganda piece."

Then I realized that this film FLOPPED at the box office and I thought to myself: "oh, great, another liberal propoganda piece!"

Are you paying attention, Matt Damon?

I saw this last night with my wife and some friends. Was not able to follow the story after the daughter got gunned down in front of the house. The plot was clearly revealed when Gibson watched the video in the car and several things fell into place for me at that point. I would have preferred to have understood more of the story already at that point. If this had been the case, I think I would have enjoyed the film more as a result. Even after the plot was explained, I still did not understand what relationships the characters had to each other in the film. My wife thought the movie was great, but I am still somewhat disappointed. I noticed that Mel is starting to show signs of his age. I still think the Road Warrior is his best film.

Am I saying Mel Gibson’s career is over? No. But "Edge of Darkness" reminded me of a theory I have regarding aging action heroes: Their career as action stars tend to peter out when they start making lame versions of their past hits. IE:

Edge of Darkness= Lame version of Payback

Harrison Ford’s Firewall= Lame version of Air Force One (and others)

Schwarzenegger’s The Eighth Day= Lame version of Total Recall

All three bombs more or less. I’m sure there are more examples, but these three come to mind.

Oh, come on! They made the Senator from Massachusetts a Republican? They couldn’t possibly make the bad guy a Democrat(the horror!)so they absurdly made him a Republican! From Massachusetts. Massachusetts is the state so bleeding Democrat, they practically tattoo a giant ‘D’ on every child born there. Massachusetts hasn’t had a Republican Senator in almost a half century. And, this movie was written, pitched, financed and produced a good year or more before anyone ever heard of Scott Brown.

But, the producers just couldn’t help themselves from shoving their political biases down our throats. Ugh, how can they expect us to stay even marginally interested in a film that is so far from believable? As if Democrats aren’t corrupt. I’ve lost count how many Dems have been caught in all manner of corruption-in the last year alone…Geee, there’s the Dem. Gov. of Democratic Corruption Central, aka, Illinois, Blogovic(sp), the other Dem politician who had 100 grand cash in his freezer, and, of course, the Democratic party big wig, Charles Rangle, up to his eyeballs in ethics complaints and guilty verdicts. But, according to Hollywood, it’s more plausible that Massachusetts has elected a Republican Senator than a Democrat might be completely beholden to his dirty contributors. Hey, newsflash Hollywood-Obama had more corporate donors than McCain did! UGH, is a tiny bit of realism too much to ask from these people?

We’re informed that the evil corporation is selling nukes to some other country, or making them for some other country. Obviously it’s a country that they shouldn’t be making them for, which is why all this is being kept so hush-hush. Which country could they possibly be talking about?

Then it’s mentioned elsewhere that the nukes are either being made for terrorists, or that they might find their way into the hands of terrorists. From those clues I might ascertain they’re making the nukes for Iran; but then that makes no sense whatsoever seeing that there’s a Republican Senator involved — and photos in the corporate president’s office show that both George Bush and Nancy Pelosi are friends — and the corporation itself is getting most of its funding from the U.S. government.

The more I add it up the less sense it makes. Has anyone been able to figure this out, or is it possible the filmmakers were just chasing their own tails and were clueless themselves? Or am I the one who missed something?

This movie was incredibly dull and had zero creativity, tension or suspense. Are the people who are posting good reviews for this, doing so in defense of Mel Gibson’s recent "problems"?

You want a good suspense movie about a desperate man seeking answers, watch Tell No One (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362225/) not this crap.
