anytime I see this movie on tv that chase scene with the Shelby always bothers me…the cops have a helicopter in the pursuit and the thing is barely off the ground!?! Why?? The whole point of a police helicopter in a pursuit is to fly ABOVE everything to track the car

I know this is an action movie and its a good action movie but that part always bothered me, just needed to vent a little

Maybe I’m a too harsh critic when it comes to mindless action movies. But I just couldn’t understand how they finished the movie like this. What I’m talking about is how the cop let Nicholas Cage go in the end, and after that it’s like the police magically forgot about him. The fact that the cop let him go doesn’t mean that the police couldn’t find him later. Maybe he could have been found innocent in the end, since he did it to save his brother, but he DID steal 50 cars after all. So why wasn’t he arrested?

What kind of villain would say to a person, "OK, i want you to deliver me fifty cars in three days. For leverage, im not gonna keep your brother…im just gonna promise to kill him if you dont do it."

    Then the hero Asks:

"Well…are you gonna put one of your dangerous thugs on him as a bodyguard?"

    Villain:

"Nah…better make it a buddy of yours who is obviously your friend"

    Hero:

"Oh, ok…well…do you want me to shoot him in the leg to make it more fair for you?"

Obviously i exxagerated the last part, but that is the jist of this movie.

    Has always bothered me…..

Why was this film even made. My guess is to make Nick an even bigger star. It infuriates me how such talented performers like Robert Duvall, Delroy Lindo and Angelina jolie are basically pushed into the background and given little to do while the GRRREAT Nicholas Cage takes center stage. Jerry Bruckheimer must have said to them when they were hired "Now you wont have much screen time and your dialogue will be pretty crappy…but it is important that you make Nick look good". I even love in the film the way they refer to his character as a legend. I’m amazed they weren’t kissing his feet and calling him your Royal Highness.

The was the same problem with Windtalkers. Had that film focused on the title characters, it would have been much more interesting. Instead the filmmakers decided to make Nick the soul focus of the film, and in the process pretty much ruining it. The very fact that he plays such a dull character who spends the whole film shellshocked and the fact that we know nothing about him cause he never talks about his past (or even how he became a soldier) makes it a chore to even care about him for the entire film.

Maybe they should have Mr Cage play God in a film. And have all the Talented actors and actresses in Hollywood be his Muses. Of course if Bruckheimer is the producer, this is exactly what will happen.

"For The Cars" by Trevor Rabin is seriously epic and awesome. Same goes for "Keys To Eleanor". Kind of like MI2 vs The Rock vs Gladiator.

When I told my friends I bought Gone in 60 seconds, I was met with groans and swearing.

Than I said it was the original. Then they all said WTF? Original?!

    ————–

So if you haven’t seen the original, let me give you the gist. Made for virtually zero money, the car was the star of the movie. The ‘chase’ scene was about 50mins and it was old school, real driving. Infact 1/2 the cops and firemen and ‘civilians’ were just that, cops firemen and civilians.

So, whilst this version is a *beep* and span polished Nic Cage movie with a budget and all, give me the original any day.

What is the song that is playing when Memphis Rains visits the Ferrari dealership and talkas about needing a unique car. He then asks the salesman "What else do you have in the showroom?" It is a guitar riff at the start and it has eluded me for 10 years. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Mine are

The Sphinx (Because he was a badass)

Memphis (Because he got his brother out of some deep *beep* and the way he drove the 67 Shelby GT was f-ckin sick)

Mirror Man (Because he was a straight pimp)

Sway (Because she was so f-ckin hot)

The GISS remake isn’t great, but it made money and should’ve been continued (and still can be continued, but I greatly doubt if the producers could afford Angelina, who they got cheap on this film) as an ongoing franchise, with the success of the Fast and Furious films.

Any sequels wouldn’t have to be about stealing cool cars again, but feature something else car racing action related.

(I don’t know if this has been posted before…so sorry )

Umm here you can see another version of "Painted On My Heart" but not from The Cult but from Steve Tyler…

The special edition DVD has 9 minutes of extra scenes… what are they?

Also, the film looks dubbed in some areas, was the film supposed to be more profane than what we saw? When Memphis is talking to the Porsche car dealer he says "weiner" and so does the dealer… but it was obviously something else! Is the special edition DVD uncut?

Having just said I’d never buy this on DVD in another thread, I’m now curious what difference there is between the regular DVD and the Directors Cut? Are any scenes altered at all? Is anything extra added to the film? And is the shocking CG used during the final chase still in there?

I am looking for more films like this, other than ocean’s eleven, where a team was working together, then split up for some reason, and THEN gets back together for a "one last job" type of thing.
