Vlad at first wanted a big reward for destroying the clover, asking for the son kangaroo.

Then he quickly changes his mind and agrees to work for free? How do you go from bargaining for a life, then just say you’ll work for free? That part was weird to me. What if I asked to be paid $30 an hour, then I just said I’ll work for free. I’d by crazy.

Does anyone share the same thoughts as I do about Katie? The obviously retarded character who was placed in the movie specifically for comedic purposes…

It may not have been intentional, but from the movie I got the message that retarded kids are funny. Mentally ill children certainly aren’t funny to deal with, it’s sad and frustrating, I’ve only had to deal with a few in my life, but I can’t imagine how parents of mentally ill children would feel about it.

Don’t look too deep in this… please. I don’t think I’m being ridiculous and I know I didn’t make up the emotion I felt when I saw the movie, I certainly felt slightly offended at the inclusion of Katie. Knowing children in the theater laughed at her just made my flesh crawl at the thoughts of what would happen when they really saw a retarded child.

I’m not bashing the movie (though I’m not a fan of it either). Please keep responses at least slightly intelligent (I know that’s a lot to ask for on the internet… hehehe).

I see there’s a whole lot of discussion going on around here regarding this movie and it’s ties to politics and religion.

I’m not sure if this has been brought up before but the most obvious link to politics/religion is the whole "A person is a person no matter how small" -rant which is clearly aimed in the direction of the abortion controversy. This become so very crystal in the ending when the rant is being repeated again, the word "metaphor" is thrown around like mad and finally the camera travels the universe while a smiley face in what looks like an egg passes by.

    Bleh…

in the giant field of clover?

I guess it was more about proving that he wasn’t crazy than about protecting the WHos then? I know I’m looking a little too hard into things but I’m just sayin…

Okay, so from reading the topics and whattnot alot of people have been wondering why the council member said nothing ever goes wrong in who-ville, never has never will. But as we all know, there was the Grinch.

    WRONG!

i really looked into this. [im a nerd with alot of time on my hands and no car.]

The book Horton Hears A Who! in which the movie was based on was written in 1954. and How The Grinch Stole Christmas was written in 1957.

Know what that means? Even though the movie on the grinch came out first, the story was actually written afterwards. and therefore has not taken place yet.

    AHA! seeeee? plot hole fixed!

Irrespective whether you loved or deeply hated the HHAW’s animated film adaptation, what other surreal (non Dr. Seuss) animal themed children or adult

fantasy books you’ve read (and admire as much as, or even more than HHAW), would you love seeing get live action film adapted or or animation film adapted. Please elaborate on what the story is about, who the author is and why you admire it.

Did anyone else find this movie to be promoting people to believe things although there is no evidence of them? (faith) Then criticizing the skeptical kangaroo? IMHO, the kangaroo was a total strawman of skeptics, she states that only things that can be seen, heard, or felt exist. In reality a skeptic would like to investigate the speck, and find out if a tiny world really existed, not just reject the claim immediately. Anyway, am I over thinking this film?

Marcia Gay Harden’s character in the mist. Damn fascist Kangaroo.

They should have stuck with that ending and shot the kangaroo in the head instead of ruining the ending and making the kangaroo a good guy in 3 seconds.

Just thought that the Character of Jojo was a bit like Dwayne, Same hairstyle, clothing, and he doesn’tspeak. Plus Steve Carell voices the Mayor…

Eh, let me know how it looks, any edits to be made you think?

    ——–

When I first read this book, I was just a tot So, I decided to see the

movie – And I liked it quite a lot!

I’ll try to keep this short, but I can’t make promises here the movie

is too great, your children should not fear. I know this book; I can

tell you the tale, and here is that story, in minor detail:

The mayor gathers everyone in town square But Horton can’t tell them –

he’s really there. All of the Who’s and Who-ville are unlike you and

me, They are people whom we cannot see.

Of course, no one believes Horton, which is sad, the Kangaroo is making

sure that it will all go bad, they rally around the kangaroo, and they

would say, They don’t want Horton in the forest, at all, to stay.

Horton’s an elephant, living in what we call "our world" In the jungle

of Nool there are animals, young and old. Who-Ville is on a flower, and

in it are the Who No one can hear them but Horton, but still, could

    you?

A great story, of course, and as bad it is to say, such examples of

Kangaroos can be found today. I love this quote, when Horton is about

to fall, He shouts, "A person’s a person, no matter how small!"

You should go see this movie, I’m not afraid to tell, The acting is

great, the animation is flawless, as well. I won’t ruin the movie, but

let me quote you this now, although it’s not in the book, it sums up my

    review; how?

"I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful,

    one hundred percent!"

Why does Horton and the other animals refer to themselves and the Whos as "people?!" First of all, how does Horton even know what people are and even if he did we can assume its safe to say that people would not be small enough to live on a spec!!!

In the final sequence, she floats up into the air, and when the movie pans out to a view of Horton’s planet, Katie floats up along side as well: PLANET SIZED.

What IS Katie anyway? Is she going to grow up to a size where Horton is just ‘Who’-sized, relatively?
