    …Michael Mann film.

The visual style, use of music and overall pacing allmost too similar to Michael Manns style, especialy his crime movies, such as Manhunter,Miami Vice,Ali or Collateral.

I only wonder who inspired whom? The asian director inspired Mann,or viceversa? Or is it a mere coincidence?

…by the way, this movie is quite interesting and good, also Hartnetts best performance so far.

I was hoping someone here could shed some light on the movie and why it was so fantastic. I found the acting to be unbearable. The asian actors speaking english wasnt very good, maybe that was the point. There seemed to be parts of the story that were in there that made no sense. I guess im the minority but i have no idea what all the fuss is about. Hartnets acting wasnt great either and found the story ridiculous. Someone tell me why i need to watch it again and what i should be looking for next time. Not here to slam thie i just didnt find it appealing. Help!!

Aside from some bad performances, Shawn Yue was especially bad, I felt I Come With The Rain to be the best new film I saw in 2009.

Let it be known, I’m a huge admirer of everything the director has ever made, and he just blew me away with this. His style is definitely a bit off-beat compared to most films being produced these days, so I understand why many people on here are complaining about the film, but if you get this film you are really going love it. Tran Anh Hung has always come off to me as a love him or hate him sort of director, and that’s fine. I feel the best film makers are always of the like… Terrence Malick anyone?

The main thing I like about this film is just the rhythm. Tran Anh Hung knows how to pace a film with clever uses of music. He’s a very musical director along the lines of Wong Kar-Wai, Martin Scorsese, Shunji Iwai, and Sofia Coppola and I just love that. He directs along the lines of a conductor conducting an orchestra and the way he does it it just comes off feeling fresh. I Come With The Rain to me was like listening to a great music album. The Radiohead tunes were great in the film. Fits in perfectly.

I really do not get the hate on this film. As I write this I have seen it three times already and the story only seems to get better with repeat viewings. The Christian symbolism especially becomes more fleshed out seeing this over and over again. I can wait to see what the director does with Haruki Murakami’s novel Norwegian Wood next.

I’ve searched for this movie on Netflix and Amazon. Neither site even shows it as "coming soon". Its like it doesn’t exist according to them. Does anyone know if the movie is even available in the US? If up coming, when?

I already thought long ago that "cinema is dead". That kind of movie portrays wondefully that statement.

It is hard to describe with words just how bad and ridiculous such movies are, but this one went beyond my under-expectations. 2 of the biggest stars in Asia and one big american star capable of making such a low quality movie? There must be a problem somewhere.

Litterally full of free violence, disgusting scenes and unecessary dirty sex scenes. Virtually the only women portrayed in this movie are prostitutes (I’m a man by the way).

I must admit I didn’t actually stay to watch the movie entirely, as I had to leave around the middle, my mental stability being in play. But the only thing I could think of, is that if somebody really enjoyed that movie, he or she must have a mental problem, or something similar to that.

The story (if there is one), is uncomprehensible, in my opinion the director is just trying to give the illusion of a story existing, as a pretext to build a crappy movie, full of violence and sex, of course, to sell a bit more tickets. The guy, played by Josh Hartnett, goes to Hong-Kong to find a ridiculous japanese guy jesus-like son-of-a-billionaire, but all what we see is some guy being beaten to death by hammer from a korean english speaking guy, WTF??

Please avoid this movie at all cost, I don’t think I will go see any movies at any time soon, that was just too much! I wonder what this director is thinking! What a waste of my intelligence, and my precious time and memories!

I saw this movie today and I must, I’m in agreement with a lot of people on here, it was a very unique, interesting film and also a film you wouldn’t expect Josh Hartnett to be in………………. the direction was very well done and made it seem a little like a fantasy tale, with a gritty undertone.

A few questions I’d like to ask:

    a) Why is this movie not being released in the USA or Europe?

    b) Is this just being released in Asia?

I don’t have many questions, if any about the film itself, it did leave me with questions in my mind but I think that was the intention from the director, to allow the audience to ‘fill in the gaps’ so to speak.

Overall, not a fantastic movie by any means but with a good lead from Hartnett and a unique and intriguing storyline puts me smack bang on the middle of the fence.

Don’t dismiss this film just because you have read on this board that the movie is awful. I read some of the opinions here before finally getting a chance to see it. I was literally frightened when the movie began because I was expecting the goriest (spelling?) most vile piece of crap to be filmed in years only to be pleasantly surprised that it was NOT like that at all.

While there are many things that go unexplained in the story — there’s a thin beginning and an unknown end — but I enjoyed the stylistic approach the director took to tell this story which, IMO, is a great magical realism genre piece. I don’t believe the film as a whole is a masterpiece, but it is does deserve a chance if you are a fan of any of the actors or the director and/or you’re into magical realism.

Just my two cents. I was glad to have seen it.

the shot in the kitchen where the table is in the forground with the photos of *beep* on it and josh is lay on the floor in the background. when he gets up the cammera zooms in to show a picture of *beep* face and the sweat patches josh has left on the floor. now is it just me or did the shape of the patches remind anyone else of angel wings? do you think this was intentional?

where the edgy movie-star looking american (with drinking problem/depression) goes to a foreign culture, kicks ass, saves the girls (and gets appropriately rewarded in the final third) while all the locals are worshipping him in wonderment and awe? if so please just throw it in the trash with other trash like "the Last Samurai", "Bangkok Dangerous" and "Dances with Wolves". We get it! yanks are so superior!

p.s: whatever it actually turns out to be i just hope they dont try and mask the real themes by pretending to "portray" or capture the alien culture.

Ever since i saw the trailer i thought this was going to be a seven/noir serial killer movie which is sorta was and the flashback bits were interesting but harnett becoming too much like the serial killer never really goes anywhere the rest of the movie, its just about the cheesy unoriginal jesus parable, once they said *beep* stopped eating and started healing ppl i was like okay this is clearly a jesus/buddha refrence and it was almost bearable even when he came back to life but when they nailed him to the board and he said, "i forgive you you dont know what you’re doing" that just ruined it. its justed cheapened the entire movie, *beep* the one who didnt know what he was doing, its perfectly simple for the gangster the guys sleeps with your girl you kill him, they just made something simple and powerful like anger and jealousy and tried to make it more than it what it is. and bc the jesus ref is so glaring the characters become plastic, not helped by them speaking english either

I really don’t know what to expect from this movie. Comparating Anh Hung’s and Hartnett movies, we can only find this association very weird…

How could this director have casted Josh Hartnett for a movie? (Well, Hartnett fans will be really confused when they’ll watch this…)

Anyway, Is the cast really sure, now? cause it’s still written in pre-production…

Personally as of right now I don’t see it getting a wide enough release, but after viewing the extended trailer I hope it is cause I could imagine some Oscar noms going its way. The possibilities-

    Original Screenplay

    Cinematography

Actor – Hartnett, finally getting some recognition

    Score, if it stands out

Right now for me it is doubtful, but there may be hope

It was more than a year ago I saw the trailer for this film. Have been waiting for it ever since. Anyone know what went wrong? I’m starting to doubt there will ever be a release. What’s holding everything up? And what is it, nine years since the last film by mr Tran? Come on! It’s been too long! No more waiting!

Does anyone have any new info, like the release date?..Preferably in the UK…Don’t tell me we have to wait till it does the the festival run next year??

Or do you think they’re going for Oscars possibly? this doesn’t seem like a Oscar friendly film, mind you.
