Hi, I’m doing a project in Media Studies under the title ‘What makes a French film successful now?’ Would you please spare the time to answer some questions for me? It would be a big help. Thanks x

Why do you choose to watch French films rather than just Hollywood/British productions?

Is there anything that you enjoy about French films that you would expect all of them to have?

How did you come to watch The Brotherhood of the Wolf for the first time and why did you choose to?

What did you like about the story?

What did you like about the characters?

Can you pick two of your favourites scenes from the film and say what you it is you like about them?

Man, there is so much in this movie that was completely irrelevant. The scenes about his love interests were so unimportant that I almost dropped my dvd player in the bath tub. Not to mention, the director was VERY generous with slo-mo to the point that the film almost became a parody of action movies in general.

This movie was way too long, poorly acted and ridiculously cheesy.

    Holy *beep*

Was filmed nicely, some good acting, and couple of hot gals.

I think the theory of the ‘beast’ that the movie presents, is plausible enough to not be distracting.

IMO, the main problem of the movie was the way overdone fight scenes. Why in the heck would you have everyone using asian style martial arts, when there is a perfectly awesome martial arts style in that era and location already?

I think it would have been much better to use european sword fighting, and for Mani, a more realistic looking fighting style, including alot of knife and tomahawk.

Also way too much slo mo in it.

Aftewr seeing this movie a few times (I love it more with every viewing) I am still slightly confused about something. The gypsy woman rescued in the beginning of the film shows herself a few more times in the film, but her character is confusing to me. Is her purpose to show Mani as a caring person, i.e. he moves to defend her when the two guys grab her, then he looks disgusted/hurt as she kisses the both of them. Or is she just screen filler, a plot line that eventually goes nowhere?

That which yeilds is not always weak

I was just wondering over the possibilities of what the real Beast could have been, and I found some photos and reference images of the Tazmanian tiger.

Follow these links to see the images:

I just watched the movie, but unfortunately wasn’t able to see it entirely. I missed a few portions in between & a couple of minutes towards the ending. I ain’t sure whether I’ll get to see it again, so I’ll very much appreciate it if someone can clarify the following issues:

==> Who brought the beast & why (w.r.t. the movie)?

==> Was Sylvia (Monica Belluci’s character) just a prostitute or there was something more to it?

==> How did Grégoire de Fronsac come back to life?

Hope someone will reply soon. TIA.

A lion in a suit of armour

An native american who does martial arts

A man with one arm who actually has 2 arms, just one is scarred with manky nails.

A sword that comes into pieces like a whip and reforms.

The hero dying and then being unearthed and not actually dead.

The bad guy raping (I presume) his sister, then she looks like she’s going to die but doesn’t.

The way it’s narrated retrospectively by a guy who is going to the guilotine in the french revolution.

    And more.

Ok in the begging you think that Fronsac is just some sort of scientist that likes to hunt sometimes and Mani is his enforcer so to speak. But wow…when he goes to the hunting lodge after Manis killers he was just vicious.

Did native americans at the time really fight like Mani? Im also guessing Mani taught Fronsac how to fight. Also, what knife was Fronsac using? It looked like a regular Bowie knife…which he used with great precision. Great movie over all.

It was a little curious that whilst cremating his Indian friend, Gregoire, (shortly after having given a couple of dozen gypsies a revenge thrashing), should be taken down so easily by the butt of gun swung unhandily by a soldier.

The wolves’ storyline seemed a bit nailed-on. Late in the film the Indian -who could communicate with their leader- gets the wolves to round up the creature. Why wasn’t this strategy used at the outset? And why not suggest to the wolves that they finish it off themselves(it was giving them a ‘bad press’ after all)?

I enjoyed this film, but I think the characters were way too stereotypical… I expected more from a French film

The bad guy was bad in every single scene with no realistic personality to him, the Gypsies were dark and mysterious, the royal family was corrupt except for one young girl, the good looking Italian girl was just a sex object and of course had to get naked and seduce the main character, the Native American guy knows everything about everything and can defeat 20 soldiers without getting hit once

In reality, gypsies aren’t that dark (Adam Ant has gypsy ancestry), and I’ve known Native American, unlike what the movies tell you they aren’t always perfect omniscient beings

I watched the film last weekend and generally enjoyed it. However, one thing I didn’t understand:

In the opening few scenes of the movie, there is a young lady running for her life across the country side. She tries to climb down a sort of cliff/mountain. As she’s climbing, it appears that she is suddenly in the grasp of some otherworldly being that repeatedly slammed against the rocks.

What the hell was supposed to be doing that to her? It clearly wasn’t the beast, there was nothing there. Some sort of demonic possession or spirit?

It seems like a lot of people knew what was going on. A ton of peaseants. The entire upper crust and local church leaders. probably some prositutes since the bordello was info central.

Since peaseant women and children were he victims how was the cat not let out of the bag? (soory about the oun).
