The part where Maurice’s hand turns into a dog to eat the girl’s paper. The line "Man’s best friend, his right hand," never noticed it as a kid, saw it recently a couple months ago. And When his shorts get pulled down, the girl monster says "Nice Ass!"

Did anyone else notice how incredibly similiar the characters were in there physicality and voice. I checked the release dates, and Beetlejuice got released on the 30th March 1988, where as Little Monsters got released on the 25th August 1989. Im not saying Howie copied Michael’s style and approach. Sure, They could have finished filming Little Monsters by the time Beetlejuice got released, but its oddly similiar.

    Has anyone actually tried this?

I wouldn’t mind giving it a try. I have several "strange" meals I like, that most people look at me strange for. What about you guys? Please tell me your strange recipe.

Banger Sandwich is my favorite. White bread with mayo, jack cheese, sausages and cinnamon sugar.

    or

Pepperoni dog: It’s like a hotdog only with pepperoni instead of hotdog.

    or

Elvis sandwich: White bread, peanut butter, honey, banana, bacon.

    or

Marshmallow sandwich: White bread, marshmallows, peanut butter {or nutella}, heated in microwave.

    or

Lazy chicken: Cold shake ‘n’ bake chicken from the fridge covered in peanut butter. I saw this in some movie, where some guy gets up in the middle of the night for a snack, takes chicken out of the fridge and dips it into a tub of peanut butter.

    or

cheese pie: Pie shell, with beaten eggs and pepperjack cheese. Baked in oven. Got it from CTRL + ALT + CHICKEN an online cooking show.

rented this the for the first time in years and was wondering: is boyd a kid who ended up trapped and became a monster?

and also why did boyd and snake want bryan?

ha, i noticed when bryan is watching the show with the chick in a bikini, the talk show host and snake are the same guy.

    great movie.

In the beginning of the movie, when Daniel Stern backs over Fred’s bike, he is listening to a well-known classical song in the car. Anyone know the composer and tune? Would like to add it to my extended soundtrack. Thanks.

There I said it! And it is true too! The guy not only looked a bit like Michael Jackson, but he had his own little "secret world" which predominantly consisted of young boys. Plus the whole "When Boy asks you for a favor, you should take it as a compliment!" Followed by, "I tried but my knees! THEY HURT!" And the creepy way he told Brian he wanted him to be his "special friend" and "play with him." I’m assuming most of you are like me, you loved the movie when you were younger and saw it again recently or whatever. Surely you agree with me, the guy was a pervert.

Im trying to find out the title of a couple movies I saw when I was a kid. I remember bits about each one, but not alot.

The first movie, I remember was about these two teenage guys who were horror movie fans, and made their own films. The movie started out with a POV shot of a knife weilding hand creeping up on a dude on a couch…all of a sudden something goes wrong, and it see its the two dudes flubbing a part they were filming. The next bit, I remember they make this monster/creature…kind of a life size animatronic. In kind of a weird science twist, something happens, and the creature comes to life. The movie goes on that the creature turns out to befriend and help the dudes out..kind of comedy in a way.

The second movie was about a kid whose father had recently died, and he and his mother were still living in their old house, or had moved into a new one. When the kid was sleeping one night…stereotypically….something starts up in his closet, and I think the electronic toys in his room started going nuts…and I’m thinking his dad maybe have talked to him through a radio or something in his room. As best I remember his closet was a portal of some sort, and this creepy little monster starting coming out and talking to him. The kid was apprehensive, the monster was obviously coming at him with underhanded kindness. One scene I remember in detail, was the kid was getting picked on alot at achool, and at one point some kids gave him a toy skeleton with a note that said "This is your dad". The end is vague, but I think he ended up going through his closet and actually battleing the creature who had been coming into his room…I remember lightning or something shooting through the kids hands, or channeling his dad to attack the monster. The front of the VHS box had this on it too I believe…I view of the kid from behind with his arms out, and the lightning shooting from his hands towards an open closet door towards the monster, andstuff flying all over the room.

I wonder how much of a bearing, if any, this movie had on the writers of Monsters, Inc. In certain ways I found the two movies to be similar to each other, mainly the idea of "good" monsters and "bad" monsters addressing their traditions through the child/children they’re supposed to be scaring.

I may be crazy, but I’ve watched that scene 15 times in a row now, and that guy looks / sounds an awful lot like Jack Black. I know he would have been pretty young when this was made, but the resemblence is remarkable.

In the credits, TV Guest is listed, but TV Host is not.

A more likely scenario would be that it’s Rick Ducommun (he showed up in alot of my favorite movies from back then) who also played Snik in this one.

Just a thought. What do you think?

Okay, my question is that at the end of the movie Maurice and Brian are saying goodbye before he climbs out onto the beach. Why are they so tearfull and why is that the last time they see each other? I mean, night fall is going to come in 8-12 hours again, right? So why cant they just see each other again the next night? If the floor under the bed is hard while the sun is out and it’s not when its dark, at the begining of the movie, why cant it be that way at the end and why cant they keep going on like they are?

I used to LOVE this movie when I was little…I watched it every day. Now, the thought of it gives me the creeps. The real clincher is the character "Boy." He is SOOOO creepy! He’s a grown-up but his name is Boy, the back of his head is disgusting, his face melts off…this doesn’t seem like PG material to me. I don’t know, something about this movie makes me nauseous.

Now, I know where ‘Little Monsters’ was filmed, since I looked that up, but do they ever actually say where this movie takes place? The state, anyway? I always figured Massachusetts since there are a lot of references to the Red Sox and the Celtics and the father mentions working ‘in the city,’ which I took to mean Boston. But then at the end, when Brian calls home, and says that they’re in Malibu, the mom asks, "Massachusetts?" Anyone have any ideas on this? Maybe we’re not meant to really know…I’m just wondering.

Well not even have to do anything at all because all they would have to do is go to where the sun is isnt up. I guess if they kept chasing the sun or .. no wait. How could it ever be "night" down there if they always had a way to get to where it was day? I dunno .. I’ve been up for a while and just thought of this. Any thoughts?

In the original draft, Brian appears to be more rough around the edges and Ronnie Coleman seems just as likeable as he is, which is not a good thing, and Maurice is way more shady and less likeable and charismatic.

I would also like to point out that after the breakfast scene, it is revealed that Brian is very upset about the death of his grandfather (Which is never mentioned in the movie), and that Glen inherited the house, also Glen appears to be more witty and doesn’t appear to a hateable, strict hardass in the original script than in the movie.

I’m guessing that the writers didn’t have Fred Savage in mind to play Brian when they wrote the original draft because The Wonder Years didn’t even premiere at the time the original draft was written (It was written in early 1987 and The Wonder years premiered the next year), and I don’t think Savage would of pulled off the original role of Brian very well.

I think they changed things around to make the movie appear to be more kid friendly, but it was NOT a commercial or critical success, and I don’t think if they followed the original draft that it wouldn’t of been a success either.

Here is the link to the original draft

Now, I’m sure there will be some die-hard fans of this film who hate me for bringing this up, and it will invoke all the usual counter-arguments (this film is perfect as it is, a remake would ruin it ect.) Most of the time, I would agree with all this. But… If any film ever needed remaking, it is this film. It had one of the best sceenplays I’ve ever seen, and the story was just about perfect for both adults and kids (if maybe leaning on the adult side a little) with the mischievous kid meeting his match in mischievous monsters, and Fred Savage was one of the best child actors of the time. But

It would be brilliant to see this timeless fable updated from its 1980s obscurity to mega-big-bucks 21st century blockbuster. I do love this film, but let’s be honest, it clearly didn’t have a big budget. Most of all, the underground world was quite tacky – imagine it redone in flawless modern CGI, with perhaps the monsters done by Peter Jackson of Lord of The Rings fame… imagine Maurice as a photo-realistic Gollum-like creature. Or Guillermo Del Toro of Pans Labyrinth directing? Hell yeah. I’d be booking a front row seat at the premiere, that’s for sure.

The only problem I can see with this, is that there seems to be a serious lack of decent child actors today, as compared to the 1980s, which seemed to have an abundance of them. Who could fill Fred Savage’s shoes if there were a remake? Or the monster’s, for that matter? Will Ferrell for Maurice? Haha.

    Thoughts?

There should be a sequel to this movie. I know that all the loose ends were tied up, but I think it would be great to see another story involving these central characters. The story could be centered around Fred Savage’s son and his experience with the Little Monsters. The same actors could be in it, just grown up. Maybe there could be a new bad guy and Fred Savage’s son could take him on. That may be a longshot script, but I think that would be cool. Howie Mandel is becoming more popular, so maybe his rediscovered fame can draw a big box office or a moderate one. Any thoughts?

I thought maybe it was because the monsters may have been children at some point and turned into monsters, but I don’t think a lot of people would realize this the first time ’round watching the film.

Has anyone found the Zydeco dance tune "Let’s Go!", supposedly done by The Paladins, which plays during the scene where the monsters are trying to scare the baby? I have the normally rockabilly version from their 89 album, but it sounds totally different than the way better one used in the film. Actually, I’m not even sure the rockabilly Paladins group did the song in question since they don’t play any Zydeco tunes. So, this other Paladins is a mystery.

    To Devanney 2003:

I believe that the film is supposed to take place in Boston, MA. The reason why the mother says “Massachusetts?” at the end when Brian says that he is in Malibu is because there is a Malibu beach Dorchester, MA. So I am guessing that the mother thought that Brian was just at the local beach.
