The Star of 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' is Finally Going to Greece. See »
A travel guide rediscovers her romantic side on a trip around Greece. Full summary »
There’s a good chance it’s in this movie. I actually found it funny, since I think it’s more poking fun at the stereotypes themselves than the people living in those particular countries, but you are sure to have a lot of "this movie is so racist!!!" threads in the near future.
It’s becoming offensive. And at the end of the day, it’s like the movie has made up an imaginary nation like in The Princess Diaries, because literally nobody is like that. Sure, Crocodile Dundee was a filthy slack-jawed yokel, but that was a long time ago. Australia is UNBELIEVABLY similar to America, so it’s really annoying (and a joke) when the US assumes we say things like "gotta take a Johnny whiz" or whatever it was the guy in this said when he needed to take a piss.
I know it’s a comedy, but that’s just it… it’s supposed to be enjoyed, and it’s hard to enjoy something when they’re taking the Johnny whiz out of you. In this day and age, TV/movies are so accessible to EVERYBODY on the planet, not just America. Hollywood has a responsibility in that regard, so they should cut it out.
Are any other Aussies here as pissed off as me as to how Aussies were portrayed? I was literally cringing in my seat. Seriously, traipsing through Europe swigging Fosters spewing out Aussie slang? Its a wonder they didnt have them wearing stubbies and a cork hats! Have the makers of this movie ever seen a real Australian?
"There is nothing, except this."
Her dress sense , her hair….
my my my
The story was cute too
if it were up to me I’d chose to speak like Humphrey Bogart, but….it isn’t
When his apparently deceased wife came to see him on the beach, she spoke about giving him time to sow his wild oats. Was that Hera talking to Zeus? Plus all his "oracling", helping the old man with the walking frame, setting up the romance and – last but not least – his stamina with the 2 Spanish women. Discuss.
This flick makes a little fun of everyone… give it a break.
It’s wonderful!!!!! and thoughtful at the same time.
If you don’t have a sense of worldwide humor, a little drama or action & fantasy, then go see something else and enjoy your popcorn and CGI effects.
and No, I have nothing to do with the cast or crew, just spotted it in a Mr. Movie store, took it home and the kiddos kept asking me about it. :) ;)
I was just wondering can anyone please tell me the name of the Greek song playing when Georgia is trying to get the man at the hotel to mail her letter?! Thanks in advance!!! : )
~A woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets~
I’m not particularly fond of Nia Vardalos, but I ended up watching this movie cuz it was all I had. It might have been good had she not played the lead character. For some reason, she just annoys the hell out of me. Maybe it’s her voice or how she just seems so desperate? I know she’s "acting," but still.
Anyone feel the same?
…They hadn’t thrown in the cheap bathroom humor. Poupi Kakas, and Doudi Kakas, really? That was dumb. They could have just made his name really hard to pronounce so everyone stumbled over it or gave him a silly nickname or something. Believe me, there are plenty of difficult Greek names to choose from. Even his full name, Prokopi, is probably pretty difficult for the foreign tongue. What did anyone else think of this?
Is it just me? Anyone else think they look alike?
Is Tamara home?
She’s a tour guide walking around all day in Greece with wedged heels. Bothered me so much.
Can you tell me exactly what Irv told Georgia about his job (before telling her that he was an ice-cream taster), he told her something like "if you see it as a job you will lose the fun of it"?
Can you tell me the exact words. Thanks
I noticed this movie was rated PG-13 for sexual content. There is no mention of language but there is the scene where Georgia approaches Caitlin, takes the headphones out of her ears to hear what she’s listening to, and asks if she needs anything. It sounds to me like Caitlin said ‘this trip *beep* when she walked off! Could anyone tell me if I heard correctly?
After watching the movie : I said to my self : What’s the reality of this movie? Is greece like this ? Is….?
Who can tell us about his tour ?
We see the same thing ; but we se different things .
I liked Richard’s character a lot and thought he was one of the most entertaining aspects of the film. I even got a little emotional when it looked like his character (Irv) might die.
This is a perfect movie to watch when you are feeling depressed and stuck home alone….. such was the case with me this weekend.
After reading all the comments on this board, I debated spending the $$$ to get this movie on demand – glad I did!
So it’s not the funniest, certainly not profound, has few references to bodily functions and little to no profanity – no violence, and just a few instances of warm-hearted sex. And yes, there are your stereotypical tourists, as the Nia Vardolos character points out at the very beginning of the movie.
This was just plain FUN… I liked it so much I watched it TWICE.
Call me crazy, call me stupid – I may not know much about art but I know what I like.
"Hi! Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"
The 16 year old nephew of Poupi? If you find one, please share! thank you. :)
Whats the soundtrack to this cd? I’m looking for a particular song..
Why is everyone here giving it such bad reviews and comments?? I absolutely love this movie. It is sweet charmind, and everything I want in a movie. I loved it so much that I watched it two times in a row!
Lorelai:The government will close that day.Barbra Streisand will give her final concert… again.
on IMDB are clearly written through fake accounts set up by the people who worked on this movie. They do this with every frickin movie these days, then you get a maasive skew of overly positive fake reviews telling you a movie is great when it turns out to be crap. I imagine this movie is going to be a bunch of rehashed greek humour from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Anyway I just wanted to remind people that the comment board is total crap and go look for some real reviews before you pay money to see this.
One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen! The script is amazingly stupid! Maybe one of Nia Vardalos dreams !
I wasn’t expecting much and was happily surprised.
It has adult humor. Definitely a film for adults. It’s a light, easy comedy with some cute and touching moments.
If you’re looking for an academy award, then this is not it. It’s merely a fun get-away-from-it-all cute movie.

My wife really wanted to see this when it came out. To say we were very disappointed by it is an understatement. The only good thing about the movie was the scenery. The script was weak and the comedy was very forced. The acting wasn’t so great either. It didn’t help that we’re both Greek-American (she’s first-generation, I’m second), so we had a bit of vested interest in the movie being good.
We were surprised that the movie was pulled from the theaters so quickly, so I told her the movie was most likely poorly attended and might just be a clunker. I knew it was panned by most critics, but I never pay attention to critics as long as the movie entertains me.
We found the movie online and decided to watch it. The first thing we cringed at was the bus driver calling himself "Poupi" Kakkas. My first thought was a 2nd grader wrote the script with a name like this. It’s as funny as Ben Dover, Dick Hertz, etc. I would have laughed at this when I was a teenager, but not now that I’m 40.
I sometimes wonder how big a money truck is needed to get veterans like Richard Dreyfuss to do movies like this.
i think this must have been the worst movie i’ve ever seen. i was shocked to read on imdb that the cinematographer has done a bunch of almodovar movies because tons of his shots were overexposed or out of focus. the dubbing was totally off at times (like watching a kung fu movie)…all of the characters (except for the lead and dryfus) were total caricatures with no depth and the dialogue was horrible (and rarely funny).
i liked greek wedding and even though i’m a guy i enjoy good chick flicks (notting hill, love actually etc)…this was not one of them. 1/10.
I can’t believe RD actually agreed to be in this film. He must need the money.
I only stayed because I thought my date would enjoy it; be even she wanted to bail about a 1/3 of the way in.
does anyone know the song "Happy" that’s at the end of the movie? I’m wondering who sings that song?
Thanks in advance!
Much of the movie seemed to be filmed in Valencia, Spain- specially the indoor parts, of course- but i wonder if part of the general scenery (except for the ruins) were in Valencia as well.
Also, I assume that paying for filming rights in Spain and paying a local crew is not cheaper than Greece, so I wonder why did they do that!
