There are subtitled versions (even if not in english) of Osvobozhdenie for sale, for example in checoslovakia, look here: http://www.dvdedice.cz/dvd-filmy/kolekce/osvobozeni-sberatelska-kolekce-5-dvd-i-35765/

I know this, and other versions, are not subtitles in english – but if one "rip" the foreign subtitles as a textfile one could translate them to english (or any other language) using a free translator on the web doing the job for us!

Then one exchange the old subs to the new ones and burn them onto a new dvd!

(together with the copied videofile as well)

I know the result won´t be any near perfect but I am sure this wil help us understand more!

I have a version hat have no subs – are there anyone out there with subs that could help out? I can try and translate if you wish, but I have no means "ripping" the subs as I have no DVD with subtitles!

    How to rip subtitles – look here;

    http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_ripsubtitles.php

Any help of getting a complete set of subs appriciated!!!

I have an old Danish ex rental VHS of part of this film which adds another bizarre episode too it’s history, AND maltreatment… Anyway it’s approx 2 hours, subtitled, but English language!! The downside is, the dialogue is ALL read by the same american actor (actor?, that a stretch too, at best, voice over artist), he dubs everyone, no matter who is speaking… It kind of spoils the drama, but at least makes it understandable. This version starts with the build up to Kursk and ends with the foiling of the plot to assasinate hitler. It abruptly finishes on a long battlefield shot with the message that (to paraphrase from memory) ‘soon russian tanks would be in vienna and budapest, then on to berlin!’ THE END. The box title is Front Lover… Bizarre cut of this film… I, like so many others, would love to see a remastered, orig dialogue, with english (or whatever country your from) subtitles! Hope it happens in my lifetime, I’m almost 40, I may never live too see it!

I have the complete film (s) with english subtitles on DVD!

Note; not avaliable as official release yet though; I managed to create this version myself as I suggested earlier and like "blacknorth" managed. This is the only way possible so far.

Great film; sad that no comercial release is avaliable ith english subtitles…

It took some time but now at last I can watch it and understand it (better anyway).

    Hello.

I am a Russian and I was not too young when the USSR collapsed.

I know very well the Soviet military movies and I have done the list of the best Soviet/Russian military movies (it is possible to buy them all in West).

    Look it here:

Have not seen this movie but very interested to do so. If someone has seen both Downfall and Osvobozhdenie, which one is better?\

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

the last couple of months my interest grows for Russian made movies. This one sounded interesting to me.

The problem is that I don’t speak Russian. Is there a version available with English or Dutch subtitles?

Since the last post is a couple of months old, I decided to start a new topic. So if anyone knows anything, please let me know.

    Thanks!

I recently bought a dvd copy of this series (all episodes on a double sided dvd) but it’s only in russian without any subtitles. Even the german speaking parts are dubbed (and I do speak a little german).

Does anyone know if there’s some kind of script or subtitle-listing or something on the internet cuz It’ll help me a great deal. Ofcourse I know the russians win eventually, but it would be nice to know what they were saying in between. ;-)

I was lucky enough to see the whole version of the movie, and I was stunned. It was a movie like no others, not some medicore hollywood production, huge of amount of budget was clearly spend, and the result is there. The amount of tanks used and exploded in the film is overwhelming, like in battle of Kursk, one of the most exciting war scene I have seen. The amount of soldiers used was unseen in Hollywood, too. You can see thousands upon of thousands of soviet soldier crossing a river and got picked off by German artillery and bombers. It’s a masterpiece, see it.
