I pretty much just watched this movie for John Doe and while I was not disappointed with his performance, I couldn’t believe that they couldn’t find a better country star to play Dusty.

Just wondering if anyone knows if a Blu-Ray version of this movie will ever get released?

Scary. I just happened on this movie on HBO tonight. I come from west coast America and have lived in various countries the past 15 years. The more I look back, the less I feel I know my fellow Americans and a movie like this intensifies that sensation. As an avid traveler I meet a lot of Americans but those who travel tend to be liberal, highly-educated and diverse. Meanwhile there is this heartland cowboy country music culture that seemingly occupies much of my homeland. Thing is you never meet them traveling. Probably too sold on all the Republican fear-making that the outside world is full of terrorists. Anyway I’m perhaps going too far, but boy do I feel creeped-out by this movie. To live in a place where the majority of people wear cowboy hats is spooky enough, but much worse is that these are the sort of people who have elected GW Bush twice and could conceivably elect McCain this time. I’ll say it again – scary! Just curious though – anyone out there wearing a cowboy hat and planning to vote for Obama?

I know I analyze things too much…but that’s just me. Anyone know how far Harley’s ranch was suspossed to be from Grandma Ivy’s. If Wyatt and Harley are about the same age (anyone know that too) and if they are from the same town, wonder why they didnt go to school together. I also wonder, if Wyatt was so big….how it is that Harley had never heard of him. But, then, I figured that maybe she had heard of Dusty, but never saw what he looked like and with him changing his look, she would not put 2 and 2 together.

Hi, I am curious if anyone might know where I can find the music that is playing during the scene where Dusty’s tour bus is pulling into Las Vegas. It is played while they are driving into town and into the parking lot at the Mirage casino where he is to play that night.

    thanks

I was just curious if anyone had ever seen a fleet of busses like they show in this movie? Naturally, for the safety of the crew and star, I wouldn’t expect them to plaster the name of the star on the side of the bus in the movie, but I would assume seeing 2 busses and 2 big rigs in a train like that would seem a little obvious.

Also, most stars that big would perform more in big cities and not so many small town fairs, but the bus fleets in the movie are only shown on back roads. Do busses for real musicians stick to side roads to avoid the traffic and safety issues? I could understand them doing it to have more less-crowded places to stop for the musicians to stretch their feet (i.e. restaurants…there’s still going to be some people there, but a place with 5 people eating is a lot easier to handle than a crowded pit stop on a highway).

I drive a tour bus for a band, there are multiple semi trucks driving to various venues on tour to set up before we show up, as for the buses, it varies from group to group, we have 2 busses for the band and we convoy everywhere together.

I was just watching Pure Country for the umpteenth time and, for the umpteenth time, I said the waitress in the restaurant looks like the mom from October Sky and Sling Blade. But when I looked at Pure Country here on IMDB, it said it was Julie Johnson…and the only thing on her resume is playing Baby Bop in everyting associated with Barney!

I’ll give the credits a good looking through when the movie’s over to see if she’s on there, and if she is then that’s that. But I sure think she looks like Natalie Canerday.

I kind of expected that hanging out and learning to rope was going to lead to Dusty saving the day when one of the ropers couldn’t carry on.

Sure enough, one of them suffered a broken arm…Dusty to the rescue? no!

I thought that they had set up such a scenario well leading up to the end, then wondered if it ended up on the cutting room floor.

I really enjoyed this movie. It seems, however, that a kiss between the two main charactors would have been more appropriate at the end. I heard a rumor that Isabel Glasser’s husband was on the set, and was pretty jealous of George Stait. He requested that that they didn’t kiss and only give a simple hug. Any truth to this?

…kinda doubt it, since they would’ve objected to the drinkin’ and stuff, but here’s my Question:

Pakistan means "land of the pure"; i.e., "Pure Country". If this was shown there, would it be called "Pakistan"?

Yesterday as my cousin was leaving to go home to Missouri she said "see you next trip!" And I said, "What are you, George Strait?" She was so shocked that I knew what she was quoting! I may have only been 5 when this movie came out, but I’ve seen it plenty of times! My mom’s obsessed!

i have a truck (1982 GMC Sierra Classic 3500) that looks exactly like the one that Harley tucker drives.

minus the bug deflector and the running boards.

right now (3-20-09) the truck is not running. (locked up)

so i am going to drop another motor in it and use it to haul scrap metal.

it IS a dually the outer tires are not on the truck because i had to use a trailer (with rails/sides) to haul it.

    but it WILL run again.

below are some links to pictures of the truck.

I live in Fort Worth and everyday I drive by the house from the movie, the one where Harley was living. You can even see it from the freeway because its on a hill and the windmill is still standing too. I remember when George Strait came into town to film this, we thought it was so cool.

    Someone commented:

"The reason for Dusty’s decision to leave the band is because he does not feel comfortable with the crowd, lights and special effects. However, this movie concludes with him enduring exactly that, but with a women! In my opinion, it is fine that he found a women, but it would have been much better if he did what the beginning of the picture indicated he loved to do when he was a child. That being, just to sing for the pure (country) enjoyment of singing!"

I feel that he DID do just what he said he wanted to. He wanted to sign, no smoke, no lights, no special effects. Just him and his guitar.

He never said he didn’t want to perform. He just didn’t want all the extra "show" stuff.

Obviously this movie has some technical flaws, and it’s obvious it wasn’t meant to win an Academy Award. It was made for people who want to kick back and relax and enjoy the story. It’s a great date movie, and of course, if you like country music…The song at the end is quite addicting as well, even twelve years later.

PURE COUNTRY RULES! I love this movie, I used to watch it a lot when I was a kid. George Strait is the man!

    Quotes: (not verbatim):

"No smoke, no lights, just me and my guitar. Think anybody would buy that?"

[pulls out a huge wad of 50 and 100 dollar bills and begins to count them]

"I was thinking about staying for a while. I’d pay, room and board, maybe take some roping lessons? What do ya say?"

"Buddy Jackson? From the road crew?"

    and my personal fave:

"Go on, get your ass outta here!"
