Going off the really vague information available online, I’ve managed to pinpoint a lot of the film locations from this movie – but I still need help with more!

Real Genius is my favorite movie. Ever. Don’t you dare remake it.

Anyone else severely displeased with this?

I hate to admit it, but there were certain jokes I failed to understand. And what makes it worse is that I love this movie to death, and that I WANT to understand these jokes. Can anyone help me?

The first one is during Chris’ job interview:

Sherry Nugil: Professor Hostetler at M.I.T. was number six.

Chris Knight: Old Professor Hostetler? Isn’t he dead?

    Sherry Nugil: He is now.

    [Chris gives a mischievous smile]

What does that mean? Did he die from hard sex or what?

The second one is when Chris walks in during the middle of the night on Hathaway and Susan Decker:

Chris: Susan! [gives Hathaway a look; Hathaway returns it]

Chris: I solved the power problem, Jerry.

    Susan: Jerry?

Hathaway: [to Susan] Take a cab.

Chris: [to Susan] So I guess you’ll hammer later?

[As they leave, Susan yells in frustration and stomps back up the stairs]

Huh? Did Hathaway lie to her about his identity or something?

Help will be much appreciated, thank you.

I hope I am not the only one that doesn’t get bummed out when the movie finishes. I also get bummed out whenever I hear that tears for fears song on the radio.

The good news — I put the dvd on title repeat!!

Not to look too deeply into the movie, but even as big a dick as the antagonist was (forget his name, already started typing this so don’t feel like looking on the previous page), doesn’t it seem like they sort of took it to a new level with their revenge on him? I mean, they *beep* the guy’s home up. Probably lost items of sentimental value (the popcorn busted the house up, I imagine the pressure would’ve done likewise to everything in the house).

Now I’m not torn up about all of this. I thought it was funny when it happened, but upon further reflection it seems pretty messed up.

Shouldn’t Kent have suffered some serious burns at the end as result of the laser heating the giant Jiffy Pop bag, the heat from a normal bag of popcorn is hot enough to burn, let alone one that size, and considering the laser is hot enough to vaporize a human target from space.

For playing a nerd in 2 movies, she was still an uber hottie.

Not so much in Revenge of the Nerds…

But dear God, I had such a crush on her, after seeing this movie, when I was younger. What the hell ever happened to her? She just seem to fall off the face of the earth.

    I gave two:

First are the successive scenes where Mitch walks into Hathaway’s class. Each time, we see a diminishing number of students being replaced w/ tape recorders. It was the final scene in that series that made me crack up the most. Mitch walks into a completely deserted classroom. The camera pans over the student desks which are all covered by the recorders. But then we see a big reel-to-reel on Hathaway’s desk playing back the lesson! LOL!!!

Second: The exploding apple at the final exam. You know, where Hathaway looks nervous after Chris walks out w/ his hands over his ears and he throws the apple in the trash before it explodes! Can’t get enough of that one!!!

I remember a thread of yore called "A montage! A Montage! A montage! A Montage!" basically it stated that tere were four montages.

    I knew of three:

1: School days song: where Mitch is going to class and notices that there are less people and more tape recorders as the days continue.

2: Number one song: Everyone cramming and the boys are building the laser.

3: Everybody wants to rule the world: house of popcorn.

Whar was the fourth one? I thought it was the beginning song "You took advantage of Me" — because that is what Pacific Tech promises: not to rope or trick y ou into illegal or immoral ventures.

Some other people are saying that the instrumental music playing when Ick is following Hathaway to the Military Base, when the boys are taking their final and Chris gives Hathaway an exploding apple, and when they set up the popcorn in his house — is the fourth montage.

If the instrumental music IS the fourth montage — why is that? I understand that a movie montage is basically a music video in the movie.

Lets do the time warp again! Rocky Horror

    Who ya gonna Call? Ghostbusters.

Everybody wants to rule the world: Real Genius

    — I have seen all of these music videos on MTV/VH1.

Not that I put much stock in the IMDB "rating star" system, but this movie deserves more than 6.7 stars! I mean, you gotta be kiddin me. This movie is one of the best things to come out of the 1980s. It should be required viewing.

Chris says: "Would you be prepared if gravity reversed itself? The only thing I can’t figure out is how to keep the change in my pockets. I’ve got it. Nudity."

If gravity reversed, Chris would stand (with his feet) on the ceiling and the change would still be in his pockets. No need to go nude there..

The only problem would be getting out of the house as he would "fall" into space.

I’m looking for a movie from the 80s or maybe the 90s where a teen or a guy in his twenties builds a futuristic gun or laser type weapon and in the end is killed. Sorry I can’t describe it more except that I doubt highly it was a comedy. Thanks!

I never understood why that was such a big deal to Mitch. I mean, every geek on TV or in movies was stuffed in a locker at some point or another.

It seems like a staple for bullies.

Can you please start playing Real Genius on cable like you used to in 2005/2006. It used to be on once every couple days. Now it’s never on and I love this movie. Instead we have to watch Beerfest, Syriana, and The Departed (don’t get me wrong, I love all 3 of these movies but it gets kinda old watching them for the 23432234’th time.)

Cmon cable please bring back Real Genius! I can’t find the actual version of the movie anywhere!!

    [1]

First, I m sorry for my poor English, since English is not my mother language. I hope u can understand what i saying.

    [2]

In the scene Chris and Mitch in their dorm playing a toy, the toy broke the window and flew out, Chris ask Mitch:

"Would you qualify that as a launch problem or a design problem?"

    [3]

I got a script of this movie in IMSDB by chance. I found that the script is very different from the movie. Many details and scenes has been changed or been cut in the final movie.

For example, there was a conversation in the script:

    ——-

    CHRIS

I know. Nice to meet you Dr. Dodd. Isn’t the Telcom raining debris all over Europe?

    DODD

    (smiling, but angry)

That was a launch problem, not a design problem. Why are you wearing that toy on your head?

    ——-

I think that if this conversation was reserved in the final movie, the movie would be more perfect.

There is a movie that I was watching on TV about 7 years ago or so and it was before we got digital cable so I wasn’t able to see the information about the show right on the screen. Anyway, it’s about a kid in highschool that was average, and then i thiiink some sort of accident happens with him and a computer and then he becomes super smart, and the media is interested in him and there is a scene were the kid is shaking hands with all the ambassadors and greeting them in their native languages. The movie was actually pretty interesting but I had to go out when the commercial came on and I never saw the rest of the movie nor did I find out the name of the movie. Is it a movie that was in theatres or was it just a made-for-TV flick? Can anyone help me out with the name of this movie please, I’ve been looking for it forever!

Thanks so much for any help!

Did you notice the dummy targets were sitting in a ’61 convertible Lincoln which was part of a motorcade? It kind of reminds me of an assassination in history in which intelligence services were also up to no good.
