    WTH???

I could’nt even get through the whole thing. I bailed halfway through. I dunno….maybe kids like it, maybe not…..but the key to a GOOD kids fantasy is a movie the kid actors will be proud of when they turn adult. IT has to be COOL in order to work and this does not work.

I feel sorry for the kids in their goofy costumes…..especially sharkboys stupid dorsal fin. I hope the kids get plenty of work in the future though.

RR…leave the kids’ fantasy stuff to Spielberg.

13 year old Taylor Lautner is sharkboy lol.

Im way too old to watch this as its for 6 year olds but Taylor woah Taylor is in it from Twilight when he was a kid.

First and foremost, let me say, I know this movie is for kids, and kid movies are usually pretty cheesy. But there are plenty of really good kid movies that adults enjoy-Shrek, Finding Nemo, Chicken Little, just to name a few. This movie was HORRIBLE. The acting, the lines, I cringed every time one of the characters opened their mouths. On top of that I was watching it with my 8 year old stepdaughter who felt the need to say "Watch…watch this!" every 15 seconds even though I was clearly looking at the screen. I couldn’t decide who was more annoying-Shark Boy, Lava Girl, or the whiny normal boy character. I finally left the room. I can’t believe this is the same director(producer?) who made some great horror films!

I cant say im impressed by the acting or the lines or the effects.

BUT i must say i liked alot the whole idea of not losing your imagination.

Also it helped me realise that i have myself put a border on my imaginaty world for some years now.

Last but not least, I spoted the family message in the movie and was so well shaped and kinldy formed the way it was. The prospective of the child in a serious issue like the upcoming divorce of his parents. And the conclusion of this but starting over with a BETTER DREAM…

I enjoyed it alot. 6/10 for me

    1. As you grow older, you lose your sense of wonder.

    2. As you grow older, you forget the power of your dreams.

    3. As you grow older, you can’t stand it if something isn’t logical (too bad the universe is BASED on the irrational and illogical – QUANTUM PHYSICS – open a book sometime!)

    4. As you grow older, you use the word "lame" more often than kids do.

    5. As you grow older, you forget that there are at least a million and one ways to view the world, but sadly you get stuck in yours.

    6. As you grow older, you forget how much reality is like a dream – they are both constructs of the mind and there is NOTHING you can do about it but live in denial of that fact.

    7. As you grow older, you seemingly forget to see "how anybody, no matter what age could like this movie!"

    8. As you grow older, the bright, colorful world of your youth is replaced by slavery to money, slavery to appearances, slavery to your fears.

    9. As you grow older, you forget how much you liked the Smurfs.

    10. As you grow older, you like to shout at other people your absolute hatred of imagination-filled movies, because sadly you simply don’t "get them" anymore.

I realize they both were abysmal, but the point of this thread is you MUST pick one or the other.

SO LAST NIGHT I WAS STONED AND FLIPPING THRU THE CHANNELS AND THIS WAS ON TV. BEING THAT USUALLY AN AWFUL MOVIE MAKES ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WHEN IM UNDER THE INFLUENCE BUT THIS MOVIE IS JUST AWFUL! HOW COULD ROBERT RODRIGUEZ MAKE THESE KIDS MOVIES THEN GO BACK AND MAKE SOMETHING LIKE SIN CITY, FROM DUSK TIL DAWN, OR ANY OTHER BAD ASS MOVIE HE HAS MADE IN THE PAST????

MAYBE ITS HIS MARKETING PLOY, REAL THEM IN WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG AND BY THE TIME THEY ARE 14 OR 15 THEY KNOW WHO HE IS SO THEY START WATCHING MOVIES LIKE GRINDHOUSE OR SIN CITY. IT JUST TRIPS ME OUT, EVEN NOW WHEN IM SOBER, THAT HE WOULD MAKE THESE MOVIES THAT ARE ON 2 FAR ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM.

I saw it on TV and all the bright colors and swooping roller coaster scenes, and the ice bridge, the cage escape, the hurricane, would all have been wonderful.

Did the DVD come with 3-D glasses?

Look, this movie stunk on ice and please don’t bash me by saying something ridiculous like ‘It’s for KIDS!’ as if that alone is it’s permission to be bad. There was a time where movies for kids (*especially* movies for kids) had quality. They were enjoyable for all ages and contained some clever inside jokes for the parents. They had good acting and a non-predictable plot.

The only part of this horrid movie that made me smile even a little was the George Lopez bits.

Oh, and if you want a *kid’s* opinion on this *kid’s* movie? My younger siblings hated it too and their not even double digits yet.

You can agree with me or you can be wrong

haha. i saw it for the first time today,

and something is bugging me – it reminds me of another movie/show…

that i can’t think nor remember of.

all i remember is that it was made for kids, and whenever the main character had a [day]dream, it would come to life. sorry i can’t be more specific. but if you can throw out ideas/titles, then yayy!

Why is everyone saying that this movie is bad? I liked it. The story of Shark Boy and Lava Girl was created by one of Rodriguez’s son (he has a creative mind – hope that he works in film business), and the movie was targeted for kids

    I found it really distracting.

I suppose she was that way to look more like George Lopez, because she came out darker than him.

She has a natural coloring that would have been just right and still contrast with Max’s blond complexion.

But i was an extra in this movie.

At the time (5th grade or so) i thought an acting career would be awesome so my mom talked to her friend that was a casting director and kept an eye out for possible auditions.

The school and play ground scenes were filmed at a school neer camp mabry and the play ground was zilker park in austin texas.

Anyways i was wondering if anyone had bothered to rent the dvd and look at the deleted scenes. There was a scene i was clearly visable in that was not in the movie. The bullies were chasing max up the walkway of the school and throwing paperballs at him. Another girl and i move out of the way, looking discusted. I was wondering if that was on there.

I just don’t get how this movie can not be one of the worst ever made, unless it was meant to be a comedy. I was laughing virtually the entire time, and not because of the scripted comedy, and it was not just me, it was my 8 year old cousin, who is one of the targeted age groups. I mean the line "Call the principal and have him expelled!" (or something like that) has got to be the worst line I have heard in my life (what kind of bully says that). However, this movie was very funny and George Lopez did a great job making another comedy.

I had to watch it with my younger cousins and holy crap, it was hell. Terrible acting, terrible 3D effects, extremely lame.

I honestly don’t understand how ANYONE could like it, at any age. I know that if I’d seen this when I was younger I would have hated it. I was never one to buy cheap 3D environments and bad acting, no matter how old those kids were.

My son LOVED this, and I was completely entertained. Yeah, it’s goofy as hell, but what did you expect from a movie called "Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3D?" I mean, come on people!

For what it was, this movie was excellent. The idea of adults & teenagers giving this bad ratings is so dumb, it’s borderline offensive… it’s like renting a Porno & complaining that it was perverted… I mean, seriously!

Aint it cool news- June 2007 Interview with Robert Rodriguez…

AICN: Hey Robert, so whats new?

RR: Hey theres so much to say! We’ve just about wrapped up several of the bigger shots for Sin City 2 and Quentin (Tarantino) is shooting some of his shots and then we’ve finished the take which is just so relieving!

AICN: So we expect it to be large?

RR: Oh yes! Its gonna blow people away. I’m hoping it gives me huge credit too (laughs)

    AICN: So whats after that?

RR: I’m spending some time in Cincinati with my family and my sons. Take a break. Sun it out. Me and Quentin have worked so hard these last few months with Grindhouse and Sin City 2 so I think its time to sit back and watch them fly.

AICN: Your sons helped you to a make a movie correct?

RR: Yes they did! I think it was great they could do that.

AICN: Will they be helping you to make any more movies?

RR: You know thats interesting because we love making home movies together. Its also pretty hush but we are actually going to pen a script for a sequel to Sharkboy. I thing we will call it Ice Girl and Dream Boy. Racer (Max- Rodriguez son) wanted to make another. I hope we do. You’ll be the first to know!

AICN: Will it be in 3D like Sharkboy and Spy Kids?

RR: Most definatley! Its really cool all the 3D stuff you can do. It makes you into a kid again!!

-WATCH THIS SPACE FOR ICE GIRL AND DREAM BOY!!!-

It wasn’t the best plot. It wasn’t the greatest movie. But I didn’t go into it with any expectations. I just went with it and I let the story take me on a beautiful childish journey. There were so many wise quotes that everyone should take to heart. How can some of you people really be disappointed? What were you expecting? It’s called Shark Boy and Lava Girl!!

To all the haters, chill out, smoke a bowl, and don’t destroy others’ dreams because you will only destroy your own.

If you make your dreams reality, reality will be a dream.
