When Ash is running away from it through the house, does anybody actually know what he is seeing? You are given the impression during the opening credits that it is the same ‘force’ moving around the area.

with all the remakes coming out these days, i’m surprised this one has been untouched. if this was made today exactly the same way but with modern blood and gore…..THAT would be disgusting.I personally haven’t seen any of the SAW movies or the alike, but how would they compare to a modern day remake of Evil Dead?

Watched this back in the late 90’s a lot (so the film was getting pretty old by THAT point)-proper $h1t me up at the time but havnt watched it for ages as im afraid it wont be as I remembered it due to the increasingly evident dodgy special effects that look a little cheap now.

Anyone new to the series who watched this recently (or Evil Dead 2 for the matter) find this sort of film frightening anymore or has the likes of your "Saw 12" & angry rap music lyrics (I dont kno wots "hip" anymore) jaded you to this little gem?

I realize the cabin burnt down years ago, but I know the fireplace still stands.

Evil Dead is my favorite movie of all time. I met the entire cast at the 25th anniversary in Chicago and, actually, am briefly on the most recent special edition DVD (I asked a question at the reunion panel and the camera cut to me. I was 15 and had long hair. Bruce Campbell does not fall short of making me look like an ass. It was great.)

I was just wondering if anyone out there ever visited the actual site of where the cabin used to be. I visited Knoxville once and understand that Morristown isn’t far, but, sadly, I did not manage to visit the woods where it was filmed. I always regret this. I just wanted to see what other people’s experiences that had gone may have been.

okay, so the only reason I wanted to watch this was because I wanted to see how violent a movie has to be in order for it to get an NC-17

This movie was really bad, and the blood/gore looked fake, unrealistic, and over-the-top.

A remake might be better than it, though, with the way movies are now

Last night I watched this movie, The Evil Dead and was looking at the players list. Saw Bruce Campbell from Burn Notice and had to watch. He was very young in this movie and guess what ??? He has aged "great" ! He is the only reason I watch Burn Notice even though the others are fine. Bruce is one of the handsomest men I have ever seen. Most actors don’t age well. This guy got better looking. He’s also got a lot of personality. He can be funny and he can be serious. Sorry for going on about him so much, but he is the reason I watched the film which wasn’t bad at all. A little gory though !

I watched drag me hell the other night and it made me want to re-watch evil dead. what a mistake.

i have seen evil dead quite a few times, the first time i watched it i was probably 10 or 11 something like that and it scared the s**t out of me!

anyway i watched it last night and i was just so bored, not because i have seen it before, just because its such a dull movie it really should not be rated so high it is rubbish! even drag me to hell is better!

ps evil dead 3 is amazing! best movie out of the trilogy, evil dead 1 (original) is the worst movie of the trilogy, maybe even the worst movie ever!

I thought I’d share this ‘cos I found it quite funny and Evil Dead related.

The other day I was wearing my Evil Dead teeshirt and waiting in line at a bakery trying to get some munch, when a small kid, perhaps 6 or 7 began staring at me.

All of a sudden he bursts out, "I’ve seen that movie! I’ve seen that movie!" and he’s jumping about pointing at my teeshirt. His mother, looking a bit embarassed, looks at my teeshirt and says, "Oh, yes, grandad shouldn’t have let you watch that, he’s bad". At this point everyone in the queue is looking over (about 10 people, as well as the staff) as the kid shows his excitement. Trying to sound like a responsible adult, I say, "Yea, you might be a bit too young for it, little dude".

Then – and damn I feel sorry for the mother – the kid says, "Do you remember the bit where the tree shoves a stick down the girls underwear? Why did it do that?"

Let’s just say the kid got a clap around the head and didn’t get his sausage roll.

I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.

Hi, I am involved in a comedy-horror film that was released at certain UK cinemas last halloween and has also had other festival screenings across the uk and USA too, it was rated five stars by the world’s leading horror magazine Gorezone and has already won two awards. I’m posting here ‘cos a lot of reviewers compare it to the humour in the Evil Dead franchise and it was a massive inspiration to us, and i thought the fans of this show may also like it. there are links on the website to the facebook group and twitter page, there is always competitions and stuff. So if you are into indie comedy and horror then it’s worth joining just for the freebies!

The film is also launching online for free to watch in June, so keep checking back for more. sorry again to hijack this board but I think you guys may like it. Its full of all kinda of demons and nasties.

Fangoria (via it’s blog) has given us the word that the Evil Dead will finally hit Blu-Ray later this year by Anchor Bay! More info follows!:

    http://fangorianews.blogspot.com/201…y-hit-blu.html

"First, a bit of a mea culpa: We discovered this news tidbit in an on-line article from Video Business a little while back, and have spent the time since trying to dig up more details. None were forthcoming, and since then the mag and its on-line incarnation have gone defunct, so the original posted item has been lost in cyberspace. But trust us: it was announced that THE EVIL DEAD will be making its hi-def disc debut later this year.

A source from Anchor Bay Entertainment, which has issued Sam Raimi’s classic gruefest in several DVD editions over the past decade, confirmed to the trade that the movie is on their Blu-ray slate for 2010. We haven’t been able to confirm which extras will be ported over from those previous discs, whether new ones will be created or if Raimi and co. are directly involved, but we’ll keep digging and bring you further info as we get it!"

Is no longer on the IMDb database… I know that doesn’t really mean anything but I can’t help but be pleased. (And I know that they said it wasn’t going to happen a while ago but Raimi kept mentioning it)

Okay, I’m 13 now, and I’ve been wondering what movie I watched in India when I was 7 that scared the *beep* outta me. That would be Evil Dead. In my grandparents 4 story house in India, they had this little television. One afternoon I was going through the channels.. and I see this. I got really scared, especially since I was so young. I didn’t see the whole movie though. I think.. a little after the rape scene(that goodness).

When did you first see it. I think I also saw the original 1933 King Kong. What a weird day.

The first Evil Dead is one of the few movies where there are no survivors in the end. I’m pretty sure that Ash is killed off. On the commentary Bruce Campbell says that Sam Raimi’s theory is "everything dies in this movie…EVERYTHING". When this was made a sequel most likely wasn’t planned at the time so Ash is supposed to die. Of course the sequel ignores the events of the first movie so in that one Ash lives. When he is attacked by the force he is blown through the woods and possessed, but you don’t see that part in the first one because he gets killed when he’s attacked. That’s how I see it, I view this as a stand alone movie because many of the events in the recap in the second one are so different from the first one. To me the recap is more of a remake with Ash living instead of dying and the rest of the movie a sequel. Ash is way too sexy to die and Sam Raimi understands that we ladies know that so it was a great idea to not kill him off in the second one. The rest of the movie (and Army of Darkness) sure as hell wouldn’t have worked without his presence! Can you name some other movies where there are no survivors?

    Hey Guys,

I am an Australian and The Evil Dead is not available here on DVD or Blu-Ray. The sequel is however, which I find odd and I really want to see this film, along with Army of Darkness.

Does anybody know why this film is unavailable in Australia and if it actually is available, how can I get my hands on a copy?

Also, do I need to see this film before seeing The Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, which are easy enough to get a copy of?

    Cheers

    Hello!

Does anybody know where I can find audio files for all of the Evil Dead films as well as maybe Evil Dead Regeneration? I need them for a project I’m doing in my audio for games class. I tried googling and only came up with a few Bruce Campbell quotes, but nothing too substantial or in good enough quality. Thanks!

I really liked this movie. It was different for me. I’ve never really forayed into older horror "classics," or older movies in general because their acting seems so wooden or forced compared to today’s movies (don’t get me wrong, there are still terrible acting jobs being done today, but the movies that are considered to have good acting, seemingly are much better than the "best" acting of the older days). Shoot me if you must for my opinion but let me further my post.

There have only been a couple older (as in, pre-1985) movies that i’ve actually watched (that i can remember, when i was younger i used to watch a lot of older movies, but never horror, and even then, i can’t remember the movies i watched as a kid). One was TCM ’74. That movie was amazing to me, and i thought it was a needle in a haystack when it came to good, old, horror movies.

Then i gave this movie a shot, and i have to say, i’m glad i did. Granted, the acting on the non-demonized side of the cast was pretty crappy at times, but as i forgave that, i saw the brilliance in everything else that Sam Raimi intended this movie to have.

And even despite the acting being flimsy at parts, i’d still give this movie a solid 8. It’s great fun, a classic and pretty awesome.

And yes, i did jump/get tense/get scared, something that never really happens with any movies i watch.

I’d say the reason i never gave this movie, or older movies, a chance because there was always this stigma i had about older movies just not being what everyone made them out to be. Being a 90’s baby (1990), i’ve normally chosen to not watch movies older than me by five years, and i’m beginning to realize that this choice obviously wasn’t a great one.

I think it’s time i put this paradigm about older movies being complete **** away and start appreciating them. Evil dead put me back on the map.

I think i’ll give Rosemary’s baby or Rear Window (I actually did start watching this on tv one time when i was 18, but got bored with it, although i didn’t really stick around to watch much of it, and i was easily distracted by other things) a shot next. Any other recommendations for AWESOME horror movies like evil dead or TCM 74’? I haven’t seen the original Halloween yet (as you could have probably discerned from my post) and i’ve heard great things about that too.

    P.S. I’m 19/m by the way.
