I thought it ruined the movie and didn’t sound thrillerish at all. The music cheesified the story.

The movie was good but when it came to the score… it sounded like the theme to Everybody Loves Raymond. It definitely didn’t add to the suspense when you have this bouncy piano in the background of every scene.

The Firm is superb and at 6.7 is a bit underrated. It’s highly entertaining and so gripping. Why is it only rated at 6.7?

I rated it at 8/10, which I think is fair.

The dialogue is unatural, the storyline overlong and confusing, this came nowhere near resembling a thriller. Direction was good but there was just something not right with this film.

did they think they could make a better ending than Grisham?

did they run out of money?

did they accidently splice on The 39 Steps to the end?

if you read the book and looked forward to the ending switch off as soon as Mitch is confronted in his office – for after this point it’s simply a Hollywood plugin – what rubbish. Had been reasonably good up to then.

    Hackman excellent as usual.

his books suck. they’re too long. lots of overly-descriptive crap about a guy walking across the street.

And HOLY COW!!!!!!! What a plot this one had.

    WOWEEEEEEEE – Double Billing!!

    ooooooooooh

    big secret. diabolical stuff.

    phooey. hooey.

    Grisham – You suck!

This whole movie is built on the premise that he couldn’t just quit. He had only been at the firm for 8 weeks, he had no direct knowledge of any illegal activity, all of his info about their illegal dealings came from outside sources. He could have left and he wouldn’t have been a threat to anyone.

I find it hard to believe that the firm would kill him (and risk getting caught for a capital crime). With what he knew, he couldn’t have been a government witness even if he wanted to. He didn’t know anything (or at least anything that implicated anyone in anything illegal).

When you look at the plot, it’s almost as if he’s trying to get killed. At the beginning he knew nothing and could have left, and by the end he has intimate knowledge about the dealings of an entire crime family.

The entire movie consisted of him actively placing himself in even greater jeopardy than he was in before (supposedly all being done in an effort to save himself).

Am I the only one who thought the whole plot was a little idiotic?

Also, does anyone know what the message directly under this one said? It was erased before I could read it.

When Eddie Lomax goes for his gun and delivers that line I bust a gut laughing. Cracks me up everytime!

It’s a dirty job,but I pay clean money for it.

I finally got round to watching this movie, and truth be told, was expecting a slickly put together Tom Cruise package….but i didn’t expect anything as dense as this?

The initial set-up was great, the cast were great……so what went wrong?

Firstly, the movie didn’t delve nowhere deep enough into the Conspiracy aspect behind ‘The Firm’……it merely became a ‘everyone helps Cruise at the end’ style ‘mission’ movie (fortelling the Mission Impossible movies to come, perhaps?)

However, i was expecting a tense, sweaty (allbeit ‘hollywoodish’) Conspiracy movie (along the lines of ‘Extreme Measures’ or ‘Conspiracy Theory’) instead i got a lazy, slack empty (mostly thrill-less) thriller….with the worst score since Sidney Lumets Q&A. I wonder if i’d have saw this movie back in 93, i’d have enjoyed it more (even ‘The Fugitive’ wiped the floor with this dissapointing lacklusture movie) I find it hard to believe it made so much at the box-office?

Just thought I’d say it since he does. From to Cocoon grandpa, to oatmeal/liberty medical spokesman, but of course, in the Firm he’s a dirty thug. Awesome!

I’m not American, so please help me out here. Towards the end of the film, when Mitch goes to see the Moralto’s at the Peabody Hotel, you can clearly see a pyramid through one of the hotel room’s windows. It reminded me of the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. Is there another large black pyramid in Memphis (which makes some sense since Memphis is named after an ancient Egyptian city) or did they film that scene in Vegas?

Was it one of those situations of an "offer that he couldn’t refuse?" I suppose there would have been no suspicion of Mitch knowing something, but would Mitch have gotten away with saying no to the initial job offer?

This is Gary Busey’s last great role before he started doing direct to video movies and such. He was so good at this time w/ Point Break, Silver Bullet, Lethal Weapon, Predator 2 just to name a few. What happend after this film? He did such an excellent job in a way too small role. "I gotta be honest with you this is not my area of expertize" other than the Julio Igliesis line was the best…..

Whoever gave the okay to allow the jangly piano score to crash and plow it’s way through the movie should lose their job as a film score DECIDER! The music is so bad, so distracting and inappropriate that it makes sitting through an otherwise enjoyable movie very difficult.

Boredom, Saturday night… Hmm, a look in the good old video collection – Ha ! The Firm. Long time, no see…

I couldn’t help but notice that Gary Busey stood out sooo much in this movie.

He’s brilliant ! All those years later, and it seems Gary really jazzes up the movie for me… Whatever happened to great actors like this ?

(ie. why didn’t he get bigger roles since then ?).

Politics, representation ? dunno, but a darm shame.

    100. The whole ending. Getting them arrested for something else, going to Boston, the brother ending up with Tammy

    99. Mitch told Abby that he cheated on her

    98. When Mitch wanted to talk to Abby inside the house, he turned up the music instead of taking her outside

    97. His car didn’t get stolen

    96. When he met the woman in the Cayman Islands who he ended up cheating on his wife with, it was because a guy was harassing her and he helped wrap up her ankle (or something)

    95. In the movie, Abby went with Avery and drugged him to get the files, not Tammy

    94. In the movie, Avery found out what Abby was doing, and in the book he didn’t find out what Tammy was doing

    93. In the book, Abby and Mitch has that nice neighbor who they cut out completely in the movie

    92. They left out the whole conversation about having good secretarys who aren’t good looking

    91. Mitch never gets any information out of eddie lomax, whereas in the book Mitch and Eddie meet before Eddie is killed

    90. Mitch didnt have to be so sneaky to talk to the FBI. He didn’t take those buses, they didn’t make him that tape that he got from the cigarette machine, etc

    Add on! :)
