The President’s helicopter seemed to match the genuine one I’ve seen for real – type, markings, etc.

My question is: How authentic were the markings, etc. and how do they get around the problem of flying a ‘fake’ presidential helicopter?

may your toast always land butter side up

    1. If the Secret Service guy who got shot on the porch was shot in his house, would the police or investigators be allowed to take his computer as evidence from a crime scene?

    2. Not that I’m interested in trying. But is the refrigerator door that easy of a hiding place where all you have to do is pull off and put back the weather stripping? What other hiding places would be pretty clever for an apartment?

And that’s all I have to say about that….after all, I wasted 120 minutes (roughly) watching it. Michael Dougals, Keifer Sutherland and other members of the cast are in my mind, very good actors, just a poor choice in a script maybe.

    question..

if you were sleeping with your boss’s wife, and then someone tried to kill your boss, and they have reason to believe it might be you because you lied in a polygraph to cover up on your relationsship..

then when you are confronted.. would you(In real life remember that)

A: say "okay Ive been sleeping with his wife, thats why" and by that clear yourself

or would you B: knock out a bunch og Secret service agents and escape becoming the most wanted man in the united states trying to clear yourself?

this is a test, the result will tell me if this movies like these have a poor plot.

    hrmf!

After they knew who the mole was and arrived at the president, they recognized that another heavily armed assassin was waiting above the stairs.

    Uhm:

Why didn’t they simply return and get back in the corridors and outside the building? One or two could keep the assassin in check while the others protect the president during their escape.

This film gets a 6.1. This would put the overall rating of the movie at about 2 or 2 1/2 stars. I’m guessing you don’t have a lot of people who hate Douglas or Sutherland, so they aren’t coming on here just to vote 1, where those who love either one of those actors will vote 10 just because they like them and so on (sometimes without seeing the movie too). I still don’t see how its getting a 6.1. This was a very poor attempt at a movie. I could say so many negative things about The Sentinel but I’m sure a lot of them have been said already. I think 1 star would be about accurate.

I just don’t get so many people who vote on here can’t just give their honest opinion. It seems that for some reason on the internet on any site where you vote for anything, you either vote 10 or 1..or you simply view a rating of 5 out of 10 as very poor, so you vote 5. I guess it relates to the thinking of my nephew, who believes that everything falls into two categories, the best ever and the worst ever.

Okay, so I’m off on a rant. I can’t imagine that people thought this was a very good movie considering it bombed at the box office and also that it was so bad, so how a 6.1? Are there mainstream movies that aren’t horror that get below 5?

I try to find dvds that my parents (early 50s) would like and they love a good (crime) thriller. The Departed would be perfect if it wasn’t so full of swearing and violence. They liked this one. Others I can think of are Perfect stranger, 16 blocks, Minority Report, Insomnia etc. Im not sure how the USA rating system works but definitely not R rated movies. Thx

Well, we had a set-up. The Michael Douglas character was a kind of surveillance and counter-surveillance superman. He knew every trick and skill and resource of all the people pursuing him. He was smarter than everybody else. What does he do then? Tracks down the informant’s phone no quite cleverly, but then lets the world know where he was going by getting the address in a way that he should have known was going to be instantly traced.

The thing about this situation it’s one man against an organisation. It’s not a race where they all start from the same place. So he has to make his way to the address as best he can. The organisation can commission helicopters, police – the Guard and the Army if they want. But he gets there first, finds the guy dead. The forces of the state get there just behind him in their three cars. He just drives off and kind of loses most of them. What does he do? Puts his neck into another noose by jumping onto a boat. Easy to surround, and watch. Hard to get out of.

Somehow, (despite Michael Douglas not exactly looking like an Olympic runner), now he is left with only one pursuer. They face each other. They exchange a few dramatic words. Then some more pursuers turn up but lo! – our boy has just crossed a narrow neck of water on a little boat. What does the Secret Service do with its personnel, its communications, its resources? Ummm – vaguely glance over there, then give up. End of scene.

Maybe I’m being unfair (I shall look at that bit again) – but bloody hell, that startled me. Lame and weird and confused.

This movie didn’t convince me that:

    1. A Secret Service agent would have an affair with the First Lady.

    2. A Secret Service agent would be dumb enough to get caught having an affair with the First Lady.

    3. A Secret Service agent would plot to kill the President.

    4. Sledgehammer was President.

I watched the latter half of this movie today and it being set in Toronto at City Hall reminded me of that 1980 Shatner movie "The Kidnapping Of A President" where the President gets kidnapped outside Toronto City Hall, gets locked in a boobytrapped armored van and Shatner has to get him out.

Anyone else have the same flashback?

hehe I just checked the imdb listing for it. It listed The Sentinel as one of the reccomended related movies. hehe

Oh no, I dont mean this movie in particular, I mean this sort of movie, you know, I was set up and I am going to prove it (even though every friggin federal agent in the country is looking for me). So then I started thinkin, how many movies are there like this, you reckon we can get to 100?

    I will start off:

    1. The Sentinel

    2. Shooter

    3. The Fugitive

    4. U.S. Marshalls

    Excerpt:

The Sentinel is your classic frame-up story where the hero is part of some group or elite taskforce and is mistakenly considered a bad guy. The hero must now elude capture by his/her old colleagues in order to clear his/her name. Think The Negotiator or Minority Report or any other film that fits the bill. In this case, we have Pete Garrison (Michael Douglas), an aged Secret Service Agent who took a bullet for President Reagan in his younger years. When we meet him in his current older state, he’s still protecting the current President, but the First Lady seems to have added sexual favors to his job description. We find this out, of course, on the heels of hearing Garrison’s close friend tell him that he has something important to disclose, but will wait until later. Note to Self: Whenever someone tells you that they “have something important to tell you,” make them tell you whatever it is right then and there. Nine times out of ten, that person will end up dead before they can tell it to you. Such is the case here. Alas.
