I didn’t expect to see her enjoying that so much…

Last time I tried something like that, the chick punched me in the head.

I remember renting this movie and watching it one night with a few friends after it was on video. When the girl bites him and he backhands her he tries to I guess cauterize (sp) the wound and makes these weird screams. All I know is I never laughed harder in my life, and even now I’m laughing while I type this. We all got a good laugh out of that part and rewinded it and re-watched it a few times. Anyone else laugh at that part?

    How is it even likeable?

The human hunters seemed like asses and the vampires were just monsters….

The first five minutes – where the hunters are getting ready to go in and kill the nest – I was like, damn, I hope they get slaughtered by the vamps. But then the vamps were just whiny heartless, mindless creatures…

    Did it get better?

You know, John Carpenter is my all time favorite director. So don’t get me wrong when I say that Vampires, was the end of Carpenter’s run of consistantly good movies. Back in the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s, he couldn’t be touched. He was awesome. But starting with Vampires, his movies have gone downhill. Ghosts of Mars was one of the worst films I have ever seen, and coming from my favorite director, I was disapointed to say the least. The fades, transitions, and the acting were not up to par with his earlier work. Therefore, I hope he can make a comeback with the much anticipated Escape from Earth!

…could have been an alternate title to this movie. How much of an egomaniac to you have to be to put your own name in the title? This movie really didn’t work(I think) because it was dealing with the topic of vampires but tried to show the vampire hunters as like tough, "Dirty Harry" cops, with correct procedure and stuff. For me it was too much of a juxtaposition to be taken seriously.

I’ve always been curious as to why Jack says "I don’t burn so good these days bloodsucker" to Valek after Valek said to Jack "You still with us Crow?" Am i missing something obvious or is there more to Jack in the book that they didn’t show in the movie? The impression i get is that Jack was possibly a vampire at one point in his life???

Why was Montoya starting to fall for Katrina? Was it because she bit him, and as a Vampire, he grew an attraction to the vamp, female, that bit him? Because earlier in the movie, all he did was throw her around, threaten her, and hit her.

Why exactly did jack let montoya go? i mean he knew he was gonna turn into a vampire soon potentially killing somebody… so why did jack stand by and let him go doesnt make much sense at all if hes gonna find him any kill him anyway like he said.

This movie is easily in my top 5 vampire movie. Like it very much, just bough it today finaly, been like 10 years since i last saw it.

I got a question for you guys. the way i see it there is:

3 types of vampires in the chain of command:

    1) Valek

    2) Masters

    3) Goons

Im a bit confuse about how a master can be created. Sure Valek can turn a human in a master or in a goon, its his choice. But other wise then that, the movie says that valek is from Europe, and that he never been to the new world , has far as the church knows it. So how come there are masters on the american continent? Can a human turn in a master randomly? like for exemple, can a simple goon bite a human then that human turn master? or even less complicated, can a master turn a human in another master? Are masters keeping some kind of intelligence? they dont seem very much brighter then goons, they dont speak, they basicly just growl and are a bit stronger.

Would be really appreciated if someone had a answer or a good hypothesis on the subject, thanks in advance

From a true vampire fan! ( or geek lol) :)

Im a sold out Ann Rice fan, i read all the novels she wrote on vampires. Im open to other versions of vampires, like the ones in vampires.

Still i cant help myself to find it odd that even if Valek, the source of it all, is dead, there are still vampires roaming the earth, plus he was the original and the most powerful, kind of sad to know that since hes dead all there is left of the vampires are a bunch of no brain goons, and a couple of not so much better masters. As far has we know theses vampires have no hope to attain the same "level" of power , if i may, that Valek has. Cause nothing hint they get stronger as they age ( like in a lot of vampire lore).

Was this the first film to have one of the characters use the heat from a fired gun to cauterize his wounds? I’ve seen it in other films since but was it done before?

    Hi everyone

I’m doing some research about vampire movies from the the 90’s until now.

I’m really focusing on American cinema but I can look further ( NightWatch for instance).

If you’re willing to help me I’d like to know what is (among the movies that came out during this time) your favourite vampire movie.

    Just tell me :

which one is your favourite vampire movie and why do you like it so much, comparing to other vampire movies.

Any reason is interesting to me (visual style, plot, violence, soundtrack, characters, visual effects…)

I’d really appreciate if you could tell me your age too just to make some statistics according to the tastes of everyone. I will not judge you.

I’m French by the way so please forgive me if my writing is not correct.

    Thanks

…this film continues the ‘feel’ of ‘FDTD’ (particularly the first half of that film, although there were no vampires) far better than either, with the soundtrack, the setting, the wise-cracking etc.

Okay, so I think the subject line is far long enought to be explanatory… :)

What would be the choice professions for vampires if they existed? :]

Oh, and I was think more along the lines of modern day, but any cool thoughts are welcome…

Do you think a quick rendering like Planet Terror and Death Proof went under could help this movie? What reel would you make go missing?

When Valke kills the priest by placing the shotgun under his chin and pulling the trigger. I was like "Oh, CRAP!!!" All the other deaths were awesome but the way Valke kills the first priest had always bothered me seeing that no vampire has ever done that before.

…and by they I mean The Catholic Church, simply destroy the cross? I mean, if I knew that vampires were real, and the head vampire was searching for this cross because it is the only cross in existence that could give him the power to walk in the light, I think I would put it in an oven or a kiln and watch it become nothing but ashes. I know that they are religious, and therefore stupid, but why didn’t they think of that?

Yeah, it looked cool and all, with shafts of sunlight fanning in all directions. The designer really went to town on this one.

But all I could think was "Why would a vampire, who bursts into spectacular fizzing flame immediately on exposure to sunlight, live somewhere where every wall and floor is ribbed with shafts of sunlight?"

And when the vampire bursts down on them from the ceiling, you can see open sky behind him. So what, he was sleeping on some sort of sunroof?

Style and set design are all very well, and John Carpenter knows how to make his movies look cool, until they start to interfere with the scene making sense. That’s when JC should have stepped back and said "Wait on a minute …"

You might very well think that. I couldn’t possibly comment.

So I love John Carpenter and most of his films, so I’ve been importing some of the Blu-rays from overseas that aren’t available in the U.S. yet, like "The Fog", "Escape from New York". I imported "Vampires" from AmazonDE, even though their shipping turnaround is some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. This last order I placed I ordered this, "Running Scared", and "Monster" on Blu-ray. Ordered about a month ago, finally came in today, and I was so excited to pop this one in as I thought it would look exceptional in HD. Well, first off, the transfer is AWFUL, looks like it was sourced from VHS. Seriously, I think the picture is better on the SD through an upconverter. So the picture is crap, the only English audio available on the disc is DD 5.1, it gets to the hotel scene where the Master vampire kills Catlin at the door and I realize, this is the CUT version. Couldn’t be more disappointed. I just turned it off and put it back on the shelf. For any fans of this film that want to see it in HD, wait for a US release, avoid the German release at ALL costs. Total waste of time and money.

Who would you have in your own vampire hunting team? I know in the Marvel comics we have teams like the Night-Stalkers and Midnight Sons (the best super-natural hunting team) but if you can have your own ideal team, who would it be and why?

    I would have…

Blade – for the obvious reasons

Batman – intelligent, bad ass and also wealthy. He will definitely be the one who funds the team and also carries out research in how to hunt and kill most of these dreaded creatures.

Wolverine – he can survive the most punishment and also with his adamantium claws he can rip through vampires like butter. Also with his rapid healing abilities he can never be infected by vampire venom and turned.

T1000 – from Terminator 2, the best Terminator villain and also if he is programmed on the good side then he can kill vampires like they are nothing.

Green Lantern (John Stewart) – use power of his ring to put all vampires to dust and also throw them to the sun.

Dr. Strange – the best sorcerer in the universe, with his magical powers he can definitely keep the vampires at bay.

Quicksilver – fast, tactical and definitely a good team player. Best and fastest way to get things from one place to another will be by him.

Storm – with her ability to control the weather she can make the sun rise and other devastations > what i mean is that shr can make the clouds go away & allow the sun to shine through.

Firestar – gather energy from the sun and radiate it against the vampires.

Colossus – need brute strength, and in his metallic form he is indestructible.
