someone once described this movie as a mexican porno. i finally see it, and realize they were right. sure there is the whole social class/friendships of youth fade angle, but the breakfast club & stand by me already did this without the porn/nudity.

plus the narration comes out of nowhere and is annoying.

really? this is what all the fuss was about?

    no thanks!

I’ve never had a threesome with a stunning woman like Luisa and a best friend, but to be honest I wouldn’t mind trying it out.. pleasuring her at the same time and just the whole novel idea of it. But would any friendship be able to survive that though? It seems so risky. Tenoch and Julio seemed to have such a real bond but at the end of the movie they end up never seeing or speaking to each other again. I know that admitting that they had sex with each other’s girlfriends had a lot to do with it, but what if that stuff had never happened? If the threesome was the only issue, would they still be friends?

Am I the only one that wants to try this out, or do other guys feel the same way? I think it’s really cool that Y Tu Mama Tambien addresses this..I don’t know of any other movie that does.

over nudity. many people complain about the american MPAA rating of putting more pressure on sexual content rather than violent content. but i tend to agree with the american MPAA. everything from cartoon violence, such as tom and jerry, to live action violence, such as die hard or the departed, can be viewed in an easily noticeable "make believe" nature. unless the child in question has severe developmental problems, he knows that the violence is not real. when a child shoots a toy gun and his friend fiends death, he knows damn well he’s not actually harming him. however, if a child views graphic sex, this puts the child in an incredibly confused and awkward state, because he/she doesn’t know what exactly these adults are trying to portray. the bottom line is this, kids DO NOT KNOW WHAT SEX IS. so how can they know how to separate fact from fiction. I am in no way attacking this film, i thought it was great. all i’m saying is, should children watch this? no. and is it ok to say, "well whats wrong with sex if your gonna show violence?" no. that would be moronic

why suddenly after their last sex encounter julio and Tenoch got away from that motel.

why after in last scene it was told that "they will never meet"

Was they so embarrassed due to that sexual encounter?

    Hi

Im supposed to write(a project) about the film referring to one particular aspect of the film – cinematography. More specifically how the cinematography supports that Y to mama tambien is not a sexual exploitation film.

Any help with references to particular scenes will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks & regards

Overall, I thought the movie was very good! However, the narrations let it down. For one, I didn’t like how a conversation would be muted and then the narrations come in.

Second of all, the narrations often gave backstory which I thought was unnecessary to the story. So often I was like, "Why did I need to know that? I don’t care that this character’s mother likes to make cinnamon rolls for breakfast." (Ok, that wasn’t actually said, but you get my drift)

Not everyone will agree, but I think voice overs are often a lazy way to push things forward. I’d rather see something happen between characters than for the narrator to simply say, "This is how the character was feeling, and this is what happened." It’s the whole, "Show, don’t tell."

Yes, some narrations were interesting, but I think they could have abandoned a lot of them. Very often I didn’t really care what the narrator had to say and wanted to enjoy the moments between the characters.

    Anyone else feel that way?

Very good movie, but I think the use of narrations is what stopped the movie from greatness.

I didn’t understand why Tenoch said that Julio’s penis was ugly because it was uncircumcised. Circumcision is very rare in Mexico and an uncut penis would be considered normal. The trivia for this movie says that Diego Luna had to wear a prosthetic penis to appear circumcised because in real life he isn’t. Of course he wouldn’t be. I didn’t get why this was even in the story line.

This movie is really wonderful but I don’t get one particuler event when the boys made out with each other, throughout the movie they didn’t seem to have that kind of feelings for each other at all, whatever they had done they didn’t seem gay at all,Is the possible explanation is as they were exploring the nature as well as their life something came out which they themselves didn’t know existed or something else I couldn’t understand.Besides was that scene really necessary because that seemed kind of forced to me.

    Hoping to get a reply

i hate to sound cliche (or maybe im not sounding cliche at all), but in all honestly this film changed my life and the way i look at death, love and sexuality. i am a 19 year old film student and have seen tons of movies from italian neorealism to film noir to french new wave. i enjoy the work of david lynch, alfred hitchcock, frederico fellini, jean luc godard, etc etc, but have never seen a film that has made me look at things differently then "y tu mama tambien." i saw this for the first time in dec or jan and ran out to buy it probably less than an hour after i viewed it. it is so unafraid, so bold, so daring, so honest about 3 of the most major elements of life: sexuality, love, and death. sure, most films have elements like this, but never has a film truly captivated the essence of reality. i felt differently about so many things after viewing this masterpiece and could only think about the beauty it created. we are free, and we should feel free of all barriers. we are creatures who love who should be able to express our feelings and desires in wondrous ways. "y tu mama tambien" is nothing short of a masterpiece and is an incredible work of art.

If this film was in English, it would be your typical late night Cinemax soft-core movie. Shot a bit more artistically, of course…but the story is pretty much the same.

Call me crazy, but I missed the part where the characters learned anything.

That being said, I still enjoyed watching it…because I happen to like watching late night Cinemax soft-core movies. : )

When Luisa suggests that they all toast Mexico, because it’s such a great place to live, and one of the guys says (I’m guessing with a bit of irony) ‘To Mexico! Magical! Musical!’ Is this a quote from something? Is it a tourist board slogan, or something like that?

Don’t stay friends in the end/kind of go their own way? yeah sure they fought and got pissed at each other on the trip, but by the end they seemed to have made up and got a long…or was that just them going by the rules the girl made? But they seemed civil when they met for coffee…other than that an very excellent movie and just cause the ending isnt what I want/would have done, doesnt take away from it all for me…anyone feel this way?

I think the two boys are in love. This sounds pretty crazy but hear me out. I don’t think either of them are gay, they clearly adore women… and their bodies lol, and although they kiss it appears pretty physical, i think it is much more than that.

It’s difficult to maintain such an intimate friendship with someone without giving a huge part of yourself to them that no one else can get hold of, and because of that it strikes a deep bond between them. Think of how Julio is standing at the doorway as he accidently came across Tenoch having sex with Lucia. His rage seems to be jealousy… and that rage causes him to suddenly confess out of nowhere his affair with Tenoch’s girlfriend. Don’t you find it strange that they both slept with eachothers girlfriends many times? It’s like they share everything. and it’s strange how they both told eachother almost immediately after they had sex with Lucia, because she was another woman and they subconciously didn’t want eachother to be with someone else… another reason why they may have both slept with eachothers girlfriends? to take back what had been "stolen" from them.

And at the kissing scene, they are recieving pleasure but the way they look at eachother it’s almost like the only pleasure they ever really feel is being in eachothers company. i can’t really explain it… for example, my friend laughed about the masturbating scene and said that it’s like they were getting off on eachothers voices and the thought of eachother touching themselves intimately, that got them off.

Don’t get angry with me lol (some people do) it’s just an opinion of mine and i want to hear what you people think. so?

My friend just got me to see this movie earlier today, telling me it’s such a great movie.

But…I ended up not liking it. It was not that I can’t read subtitles, first of all, I’m hispanic and I understood what was being said anyway, and if I needed help, I just move my eyes to the subtitles, it was not the man on man kiss that took place, it was not the drugs, and it was not the sex scenes.

I just really don’t get the point of this film. I didn’t enjoy it, but it seems that everyone on this board LOVED the film, all you people say it changed your life on how you view sex.

Maybe I didn’t get it because I saw it once, and I might need to see it again, which is NOT gonna happen. I just couldn’t take it, I just wanted to leave my friend’s house. But I actually sat through it and saw the whole thing.

And you people say this movie had great cinematography? It looked like what an Indie movie would look like. There was nothing spectacular about it at all! But I have to admit, there were some wonderful shots of the parts of Mexico.

But perhaps it’s my opinion. And maybe people should know that there’s actually MORE to life than just having sex?
