Why was the dialogue frequently not recorded while filming movies such as this and other Italian gore flicks from the late 70’s early 80’s? Why was it added later?

Sorry but the old shuffling shambling zombie thing has always made me laugh, the characters in these films are astoundingly stupid to get caught by them. I’m a fan of the genre but prefer the movies where our undead friends are a little more nimble.

He sells the role of Dr. Menard very well. He commands every scene he is in and is one of the main reason I like this movie.

"The ship can leave now…tell the crew"

    "You’re tired"

"It makes the dead get up and walk"

All right, here are a couple of things that make the possibility of a blu-ray more realistic:

    1. Both Blue Underground and Media Blasters have tossed their hats into the blu-ray ring (although BU already has a bunch of blu-rays out)

    2. Blue Underground is releasing the obscure Circle of Iron on blu-ray… which BU first released on DVD in early 2004… just a few months before their release of Zombie.

However, who would be better at putting this on blu-ray? While BU has more experience already, and their DVD had the best video quality (if only because it was encoded in 24p progressive scan over Media Blasters’ 30i interlaced transfer), Media Blasters has BU beat in the extras department. Guess we can only sit back and wait for now…

At the very end of this uh- movie, there is a close-up of a zombie on the Brooklyn Bridge as you hear the DJ telling of the zombies entering New Yotk before he is attacked and, I assume, eaten by a zombie. Do you think the zombie you see just before he screams is the culprit? I ask because I was that zombie echh-stra. Plus, why can’t I get a credit on IMDB for this part? Can anyone help me here?

I don’t care what anyone says – the zombies in this movie were fu*king CLASS! The early zombie movies portrayed incredibly frightening corpses whereas nowadays the zombies are looking more and more like vampires. Zombi 2, as low budget as it was, had the greatest and most terrifying zombies in a horror movie ever. In my opinion…What are your thoughts?

This movie is banned in my country and there is no way I can import it from Amazon or Ebay as they scan and physically open each and every DVD and BD here. I found this movie online. there are two versions one is 83 Minuts long (The author says its UNCUT) and there is one 91 Minutes version (The Author dosent mention anything that is it cut or unrated). So my question is that which one is actually the uncut or Unrated 83 Minutes or the 91 Minutes? is there any version u saw which is 91 Minutes long but censored?

The movie is so-so but…virtually every female character in this film would stand there in a trance or something when a slow-moving zombie was coming to chomp on them. They don’t even bother running!

Have you ever noticed when they are first showing the patrol boat at the beginning of the movie, that it looks like a zombie figurehead at the bow?

    Take a look!

I’ve heard a lot of hipe about this movie. I am also a big zombie movie fan, especially the Living Dead series of George Romero, which Zombi attempted to cash in on. If I like those, will I enjoy this?

First I should probably say that I’m not a big fan of censorship, especially not in this type of film. Italian zombie films just don’t seem right without a nice bit of gore. Its just that I have noticed that my views on this particular film seem to have changed over the years, in a way that kind of leaves me baffled.

I first saw Zombie Flash Eaters when I was 15. It was on British late night TV. Naturally the eye bursting scene had been cut out.

I should probably explain what this particular censored version was like:

You see the zombie dragging the woman’s face towards the jagged wooden splinter. It gets closer and closer. The wood actually makes contact with her eye… And then a picture of a boat.

No clever editing, nothing subtle. Just suddenly a picture of a boat. It couldn’t have looked more censored if they’d just blanked out the offending scene.

I was outraged. I wanted to see the eye burst! How dare they?

I have just got a copy of this film and have watched it for the first time since then. This copy has the eye bursting scene in. So now I’ve seen it. And yet…I find myself wanting the censored version.

It’s not that it was too gross or shocking. I’m happy to have (finally) seen the whole thing. But somewhere inside me I find a perverse humour in the censored copy. The fact that it didn’t looked like they had just removed it. It looked more like someone had seen it, thought ‘this is disgusting!’ and ripped out the bad bit in fury. The fact that the sudden shot of a boat made me think “what the hell?” but whoever censored it seemed to think no one would notice at all.

Maybe it’s just that I’ve seen gorier things over the years. Maybe I’ve matured (although I doubt it).

Has anyone else noticed they prefer the mangled censored version of gory films? Or is it just me being odd? Probably the latter :)

    Still, I love this film.

Although this film is obviously flawed in parts, it is a much better unoffical sequel to Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Where 1985’s "Day of the Dead" is the proper sequel it grates and runs at a sluggish pace with a poor script and unispired direction and cast.

Zombi 2/ Zombie Flesh Eaters whatever you choose to call it, does piggy back onto Romero’s best work, but it delivers some great 1970’s horror and titilation. It is certainly Fulci’s best work.

Sure, there is bad dubbing and bad acting – but there are suprising good effects, a great soundtrack (worth seeking out) and a much more interesting plot line than the tedious "frankenstein" lift that is Day of the Dead.

    Recently in HMV I found a DVD boxset, Zombie Flesh Eaters containing;

Zombie Flesh Eaters 1,2,3 with a bonus disk of Zombie Holocaust

Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 and 3 are the excact same as I remeber them from Zone Horror showings in the past, but i’m not sure about Zombie Flesh Eaters(Zombi 2)

    or Zombie Holocaust.

It comes from Cornerstone Media International

I just want make sure I wasn’t duped as it was £15.99 and I’ve heard of some cut copies on the shelves here in the UK

Any feed back will be thankful :)

….what can I say? A truly amazing film. I was gripped from start to finish. The scene following the credits of the boat drifting in the harbour is truly atmospheric and has an underlying sinister atmosphere to it. The effects, the acting, the camera work, soundtrack (very haunting), directing and the zombie make up was all top notch stuff. This is my first foray in to the films of Fulci. Having seen an article in Fangoria magazine about Beyond I will invest in that DVD next and I’m contemplating House by the Cemetery – do you all recommend those films?

Also here in Britain they have released a Zombie Flesh Eaters limited edition box set featuring 1 – 3 (are the other 2 any good?) and also Zombie Holocaust. That last film is putting me off the box set because I do not want to watch a film featuring animal cruelty. I did buy the DVD for my ex girlfriend and she point blank refused to watch it.

Any other films you recommend with zombies that appear so rotten you can almost smell the stale dust on their clothes? Like other users have said most modern zombie movies feature zombies closer to vampires – gone are the days of zombies fresh out of the ground after a several month dirt nap. Bring back those days!

And im a BIG zombie fan and Romero fan (Minus Diary), and i do like some of Lucio Fulcis films, but when people say Zombi is better then Dawn, really?

What are your favorite scenes in this movie? Mine are:

    1. Zombie vs. Shark

    2. Splinter through the eye

    3. The bit where the zombies are eating someone, just sitting quietly on each corner of the corpse eating, eating slabs of it.

    4. The ending

…and this guy was dressed up like the Zombie with the horribly decayed face and the worms in his eye socket. It was fantastic! I ran up to him and said, "Fulci’s Zombie, right?" He smiled (I think), bared his rotten teeth and said, "Yeah, I was afraid no one would recognize me." I think I made his zombie night.

As joffe666 notes in another thread, this should not be considered a sequel at all. It was shot at the same time as Dawn of the Dead, which overseas, was called Zombi: Dawn of the Dead. They were just trying to cash in on the success of the other, rather than let it stand on its own.

Fulci has his own sets of rules for these zombies, much different than Romero. I think this is a very cool movie and needs to be viewed as its own entity, not a Romero ripoff, remake or sequel (officially or unoffially).

The first zombie movies were more in the voodoo genre, as this is, not so much the undead rising because Hell is full as Romero has them.

I’ll never understand why some people call this movie a Dawn Of The Dead rip off… Except the fact that it’s a zombie movie, it doesn’t have ANY similarity with Dawn Of The Dead! It has a totally different story, it mostly takes place on an island (not a mall), the zombies look totally different and etc… OH and it was written BEFORE DOTD! Saying that it’s a DOTD rip off is just like saying that every single zombie movie is a Night Of The Living Dead rip off, that every single vampire movie is a Nosferatu rip off and etc…

OH WAIT, The Plague Of The Zombies (just an example) was made before Night Of The Living Dead!!1!eleven! Night Of The Living Dead is a rip off!1!1!!

Yeah, just as stupid as saying that Zombi 2 is a Dawn Of The Dead rip off.

Want a real Dawn Of The Dead rip off? Try Hell Of The Living Dead.
