Zombieland (2009)

This place is so dead

The horror comedy Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss — but when you\’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying\’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

The world has ended. Zombies are everywhere. But you have a craving…

Being a Brit, I can’t say I’ve ever eaten a Twinkie, but I totally empathise with Tahllahasse’s desperate search for a little taste of pre-apocalypse goodness!

What would you move Heaven, Earth and a mountain of zombie-corpses for?

I’d have to go for a Cadbury Crème egg! So round, so sugary! Plus, (in the UK at least) they’re only available from January to Easter, so they’d be even more of a treat when I found one!

Awesome job from Mr Murray – clearly having some fun there.

… and you could see it coming a mile off that the kid would shoot him, but I still laughed SO much.

    bravo.

Hmm, when they smashed up all the beautiful american indian ornaments and souvenirs in slow mo- eh yes…"Wasn’t our effort to eradicate American Indian culture in the 19th and 20th centuries fantastic everybody- lets celebrate it and smash it up once again".

The American Indians were the Victims of Genocide- haven’t Americans devalued them in society enough already without rubbing salt in the wound.

Sorry this bit stunk, rest of the film was ace though!

Why is it that in Zombie movies (not just this one) the zombies never eat each other? Seems to me a rabid, mindless creature whose whole existence is based on feeding would eat anything that moves. Animals that normally wouldn’t eat each other (people included) have done it since forever when the situation was dire enough. The zombies in this movie eat dead beings they come across so why not other zombies?

For all who thought " Zombieland " was something special I want to say " You have become the zombie! "..

Definition of a Zombie: A zombie is a creature that appears in books and popular culture typically as a reanimated dead or a –> mindless human being. (wikipedia).<– Bingo!

    1. Did you not question the plot lacked explanation on how this worldwide pandemic occurred ?

(No) You are a Zombie !

    2. Did you think the characters in Zombieland were highly developed and showed enough intelligence to survive a global holocaust?

    (Yes) You are a Zombie!

    (Yes) You are a Zombie!

    4. Would you, in an over-populated Zombie world, walk around outside, on foot and have your luggage in-tow and expect a high survival rate?

    (Yes) You are a Zombie!

    5. If you were one of the few lucky survivors, would you (A.) Lay low and out of sight? or (B.) Go to the nearest Amusement park?

    B. Amusement Park.. (Yes) You are a Zombie!

    6. Do you think it is feasible for 4 surviving humans to travel around the Los Angeles area to visit the mansion of a famous comedian/actor and not be attacked by hordes of flesh eating zombies?

    A. Scare armed companion Yes, You are a Zombie!

All this sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Now reassess this film and you will begin to see where I am going with this poll.

If you are babbling about what a great film, then you really don’t expect much for your money! Exactly what the Producer/Director were hoping for.. Zombies who do not question.. They laughed on their way to the bank with your money!

Wake up! America and quit being duped into believing FX trumps an intelligent plot and concise script, this film had neither, nor was it believable.

Someone should have told the director parodies are supposed to be funny, this film was neither funny or scary or even close to being clever.

I really loved this movie alot, although I thought some of the characters were really stupid, but I guess that was the funny part of the story. I liked the girls better, because they really performed better than the rest of the characters. I really enjoyed when Bill Murray tried to scare Ohio, it was really funny and entertaining, specially when Wichita started laughing at his death and after that she had to stop coz she found out everyone was looking at her.

I had to nearly stop myself from shouting Chumbawumba Tubthumping when they were talking about 1997, but then I stopped and looked around and the 17-18 year olds that would probably not have a clue about what I was talking about lol.

also, who else could forget about Aqua’s "Barbie Girl" lol.

So what was the best things of 1997 for you? (if your old enough to remember and for the record, I was a teenager at the time lol)

Since Bill Murray’s cameo wasn’t spoiled for me before the movie, with all the hype around "the tippity top of the A-list" and seeing the initials BM on the gate door, my first thought was…

    Barry Manilow?

Who did you think BM might be? (if you didn’t know ahead of time)

Zombieland is proof that Hollywood can beat Brit cinema any time of the day. Zombieland is slicker, funnier and way way more cool than Shaun of the Dead.

Has anyone played it? I found this awesome partly because it reminded of the game, I remember how I would go down in the tunnel with a van and crush zombies back and forth, doing the "Double Tap" like Tallahassee had down in the theme park.

Also there’s the clown and the rides in Wonderland Plaza from the game that was also in the movie.

I would love to have seen chainsaws used in this film, they did show Tallahassee with two of them. Smashing heads in with hammers, it’s all there.

So I’m wondering was the film partly inspired by the game?

If you haven’t played it yet, GO GET IT NOW!

If you’re a fan of the zombie genre you’ll love it.

Carrying on from another thread – I thought the first half of this film was brilliant – up until the Bill Murray scenes – and believed there was a distinct nod towards Romero’s ‘Zombies = Unthinking Drones’ and the opening was a pretty blatant swipe at a nation with a growing hord of non-thinking, subserviant and gluttenous consumers who are a danger to the few who have escaped the ‘bug’.

The Native Indain Store scene seemed to suggest that the Indian Culture had once been dominant but that was laid waste and was now just another comerical gimmick and they trashed the store, as the culture had been trashed, whilst knowing their own ‘new’ culture itself was now being trashed. Pity the second half wimped out.

I probably looked forward to this movie more than any other last year. Netflix finally decides to send it to me after "forever wait," and I was a bit disappointed. Three out of five stars.

It didn’t work for me because there was nothing really going on in terms of plot. Sometimes this is fine if you have compelling characters, but these folks were not terribly interesting. I think the best scenes appeared in the trailer, and what augmented them, in addition to time compression, was the British voice-over guy. That’s a talent and Eisenberg cannot match that dynamism.

In the audio commentary Woody Harrelson mentioned that Bill Murray was a late substitute for another person (Woody declined to name the person who is a friend of his), who wasn’t able to do the film. I wonder who that might have been? That person is likely regreting his/her choice.

Do you remember when zombies used to be the dead rising out of their graves and not humans that are infected with a virus?

Do you remember when vampires used to be scary and they wanted to suck your blood and not date your teenage daughter?

Do you remember when horror movies were labeled slasher films and not torture films?

Do you remember when horror films had a little T&A?

Feel free to come up with more.

    How I rate movies: 5 stars=F,6 stars=D,7 stars=C,8 stars=B,9 stars=A.1-4 stars are very bad.

    No zombies.

Was I the only person that felt like if the entire USA was turned into zombies there would have been more encounters? Walking down the middle of the expressway, walking thru the residential area when they get the humvee, driving threw smallville USA. I just feel like there would have been ALOT more zombies roaming around then what this movie showed. Other than that I tought it was a great flick.

Same premise about fast moving crazy zombies and a theme park, the same idea done before 30 years ago in Umberto Lenzi’s cult Sci-fi horror action film from Italy/Spain/Mexico.

The names the 4 main characters use are based on the destination city that the particular character is trying to get to. So why does Little Rock and Witchita have those particular names when they are trying to get to Los Angeles?
